\n Jimmy Butler sounds ready for another reunion with Tom Thibodeau.<\/p>\n

Having played under the new Knicks coach in Chicago and Minnesota, Butler \u2014 who has credited Thibodeau with his development from late first round pick to five-time All-Star \u2014 said he believes the young core of RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson could make similar progress with Thibodeau\u2019s teachings.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s going to do great. He\u2019s going to turn those young guys into some real players; some superstars, some All-Stars,\u201d Butler said of Thibodeau. \u201cI know he\u2019s been itching for this. I know he\u2019s been preparing for it. When you talk about Thibs and the big stage, I think they go hand in hand.\u201d<\/p>\n

After four seasons together in Chicago \u2014 during which Butler went from averaging two points per game<\/a> as a rookie to 20 points in 2014-15 \u2013 Thibodeau, as coach and president of basketball operations, brought Butler to Minnesota in a 2017 trade. That season, the pair helped produce the Timberwolves\u2019 first playoff app<\/a>earance in 14 years.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Butler\u2019s unhappiness with the team led to a trade request before the next training camp, leading to Thibodeau\u2019s firing midway through his third season as coach. After landing in Philadelphia, Butler accepted fault for how the situation unfolded.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll take all the blame. I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll say he\u2019ll take it, too,\u201d Butler said last year. \u201cBut like I tell everybody, Thibs is a big part \u2013 and you can tell I\u2019m smiling because it\u2019s the truth \u2014 of who I am today as a player. He gave me an opportunity after not letting me play at all my first couple of years. But then he saw something in me and he let me rock a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Distance, though, made Butler\u2019s heart grow fonder. Last year, Butler also acknowledged the challenge of playing for the famously intense coach, suggesting the style is better suited for college basketball.<\/p>\n

\u201cHell yeah it\u2019s different,\u201d Butler said. \u201c[Butler\u2019s former coach] Buzz Williams, who is a lot like Thibs in the sense that they\u2019re going to yell at you, they\u2019re going to motherf\u2014 you, they\u2019re going to say it all, that\u2019s how they talk to you. I think in the league you can\u2019t really talk to nobody like that. You know what I mean?\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
