\n Christopher Meloni shows a completely different side of himself in \u201cMaxxx,\u201d Hulu\u2019s six-episode comedy series<\/a> created by star O-T Fagbenle.<\/p>\n

Meloni, 59, plays Don Wild, the flamboyant, coke-snorting, sex-fueled record exec who takes a second chance on Maxxx (Fagbenle), a washed-up boy-band singer attempting a precipitous comeback.<\/p>\n

Meloni and Fagbenle previously worked together on Hulu\u2019s \u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale,\u201d in which Fagbenle plays Luke, June\u2019s (Elisabeth Moss) husband who fled to Canada to escape dystopian Gilead. Meloni guest-starred in Season 3 as Commander Winslow.<\/p>\n

Meloni, who\u2019s back this fall as Elliot Stabler in the NBC spinoff \u201cLaw & Order: Organized Crime,\u201d spoke to The Post about playing Don Wild \u2026 and his fear of long fingernails.<\/p>\n

Did your connection to O-T Fagbenle factor into your role on \u201cMaxxx\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n

There was no connection. I guess I never even brought it up. He was like, \u201cI\u2019ve just been a fan and your name came up and everybody was like, \u2018Oh, man, that would be great.’\u201d I\u2019m always surprised when that happ<\/a>ens. I don\u2019t know that they see in me, but God bless \u2019em for their vision (laughs).<\/p>\n

Was Don based on anyone you know?<\/strong><\/p>\n

He was built out of whole cloth, but one of the pictures I had in my mind was \u2026 [British-born New York club owner] Peter Stringfellow. I actually worked at his club as a bartender in the late \u201980s before it was a strip<\/a> joint. He always struck me as a little bit of a Peter Pan guy, someone who thought of himself as a 26-year-old trapped in a 65-year-old\u2019s body. Don is a little more of an erratic, crazier guy.<\/p>\n

Did you have input into Don\u2019s accoutrements?<\/strong><\/p>\n

He was originally written as guy in his 70s and I had a lot of questions right out of the gate like, \u201cHave I not aged that well?\u201d O-T said, \u201cNo, your name just came up\u201d and they decided to throw [Don\u2019s age] out the window. I came up with the perpetual tan thing \u2014 I think we\u2019ve all seen that \u2014 and I came up with Don\u2019s earring. I had my ears pierced a thousand years ago and [the piercing holes] were actually still open. I couldn\u2019t believe it; I was fully prepared to get my ears re-pierced.<\/p>\n

The costume designer was amazing and put the accoutrements together to give Don that Bono-type flair.\u00a0 O-T and the director said, \u201cWe see a goatee thing\u201d and I said, \u201cOK, I\u2019m fine with that, but it has to be dyed\u201d \u2014 you know, that Las Vegas dye job where it\u2019s like, \u201cI\u2019m going to continue to keep this mirage alive \u2014 I\u2019m wrinkly but just look at my tan.\u201d\u00a0 I still don\u2019t understand what this means but I grew my fingernails long, and that had a huge effect on everything else. It nearly drove me crazy. I like my fingernails short and it was such a mind-f\u2013k. I was laughing at myself the whole time, like, \u201cReally dude? You\u2019re growing out your nails? Isn\u2019t that mentally traumatic for you?\u201d I didn\u2019t touch my nails for three months, only filed them to make them look nice. I brought my acoustic guitar to London, but my nails became so long I couldn\u2019t play it \u2014 they kept hitting the fret board.<\/p>\n

Season 1 ends on an open-ended note. Any chance the series will return?<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s a question for O-T, but I\u2019ve already begged him. I love London, and I loved working on it.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
