It\u2019s the historic third year in a row that the Queen of Christmas has reigned atop the charts with her seasonal juggernaut.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You\u201d leads a Top 10 that also includes 1958\u2019s \u201cRockin\u2019 Around the Christmas Tree\u201d by Brenda Lee (No. 2), 1957\u2019s \u201cJingle Bell Rock\u201d by Bobby Helms (No. 4), 1964\u2019s \u201cA Holly Jolly Christmas\u201d by Burl Ives (No. 5), 1963\u2019s \u201cIt\u2019s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year\u201d by Andy Williams (No. 7), and 1984\u2019s \u201cLast Christmas\u201d by Wham! (No. 9). Clearly, when it comes to Christmas hit songs, the oldies are the goodies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does tend to be pretty much driven by the songs that have been out for decades,\u201d said Gary Trust, Billboard senior director of charts. \u201cWith pop music, the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> angle is, the newer the song is, the cooler it is. It\u2019s kind of the reverse with holiday music, where the older the song is, it probably has a leg up because holiday music really seems to be comfort food, seems to be all about nostalgia and family memories. So if you\u2019re going to put something that\u2019s pretty new up against Brenda Lee and Bobby Helms and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=e_AMTbO50vU\">Burl Ives<\/a>, it better be good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While some artists \u2014 such as Pentatonix, Michael Bubl\u00e9 and Josh Groban \u2014 have more recently had success with Christmas albums, they have relied more on covering familiar faves than crafting fresh ones. But Carey herself co-wrote \u201cAll I Want\u201d with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/all-i-want-for-christmas-is-you-cowriter-slams-mariah-carey\/\">Walter Afanasieff.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou go back to 1994, and very few artists were putting out new original holiday music at the time,\u201d said Trust. \u201cIt was sort of accepted that if you were going to do holiday music, you put out covers. It just tended to be the way it worked.
