\n Parents greeted the city\u2019s school reopening plan with cheers and jeers Friday.<\/p>\n

For Sohna Wikman \u2014 a 44-year-old marketing consultant with a 13-year-old son at the International School of Brooklyn and an 8-year-old daughter at PS 321 \u2014 any fall without a full reopening is a bust, even with the coronavirus still around.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they should open \u2014 it\u2019s better for the kids,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe school does so much more than teach \u2014 it provides a safety net, an insight into how they\u2019re doing and not all families have opportunity to work from home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, the mom added, \u201cMy heart goes out to the teachers. They\u2019re probably more at risk than our kids are.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her son, Caleb, seemed more accepting of online learning, calling it \u201cthe new normal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was rough in the beginning. We had some crashes,\u2019\u2019 he said of the city\u2019s move to online instruction this past spring in the grip of the pandemic. \u201cWe just had to get used to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

But her daughter Leah lamented, \u201cI can\u2019t play with my friends in the same way. And I really like to go out and come to school and see them in person.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Mia Huang, 31, an Upper West Side fashion buyer , said she is keeping her 5-year-old daughter Katherine at home from PS 334 no matter what.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want the school reopening,\u2019\u2019 Huang said. \u201cI\u2019m not sure it\u2019s very healthy for the children.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s very safe, to have all the kids go back to school right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Glenn McAnanama, who is in marketing and also lives on the Upper West Side, has one son, Reid, 9, who goes to private school, and another son, Finn, who attends public.<\/p>\n

The dad said his mind is more at ease over Reid because \u201cthe private school has more space and more staff.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for city schools, \u201cI hope they\u2019re doing a lot of data tracking and testing and they\u2019re honest with what the data says so everyone can make the best decision,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Brooklyn mom Shauna May, 36, said she sees the pros and cons to sending her children \u2014 5-year-old son Jordayne and 9-year-old daughter Daeshanel \u2014 to school.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy concern is they need a classroom environment to learn. With science<\/a>, I have that concern,\u201d said the East Flatbush resident.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut \u201cI\u2019m scared for them to go to the classroom and be with other students.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s a good idea. \u2026 Sometimes when [the kids] are talking, they push down the masks.\u201d<\/p>\n
