I failed to recognize I was an idiot, and was just plain wrong about the features and flexibility it currently offers.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s all in the past: I\u2019d now like to share with you some wisdom that has drastically improved my computing experience \u2014 a bunch of handy keyboard shortcuts. These work on Windows 10 and Windows 11, but a couple of them require you to first <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/powertoys\/install\">install PowerToys from Microsoft<\/a>. Yeah, it\u2019s another couple of steps, but you\u2019ll see why it\u2019s totally worth the hassle. Let\u2019s go.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Copying_and_pasting_multiple_snippets_with_Win_V\"><\/span>Copying and pasting multiple snippets with <em>Win + V<\/em><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Most people copy and paste one bit of text at a time, and they\u2019re losing precious minutes and sanity as a result. Sharing the title of an article along with a link really shouldn\u2019t take that many steps. Thankfully, there\u2019s a way to save multiple snippets of text to your clipboard, and paste them as necessary.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to enable Clipboard history to use this feature. The quickest way to do that is click the <em>Start<\/em> button, type \u2018Clipboard\u2019, and click <em>Clipboard settings<\/em>\u00a0when it pops up there as a search result.<\/p>\n<p>On the settings page that appears, set the \u2018Clipboard history\u2019 toggle to on, and you\u2019re ready to use <em>Win + V<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post-image post-mediaBleed aligncenter\"><img anytime you copy some text, it\u2019ll be stored in your Clipboard along with other snippets, and you can hit <em>Win + V<\/em> to bring up a list of them to choose and paste wherever you want.<\/p>\n<p>The Clipboard history feature works even when you copy images, screenshots, and even parts of an image in an app like Photoshop \u2014 and you can paste those just like you would with 239w\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>As I described, this comes in particularly handy when I need to share the headline or multiple quotes from an article, along with a link to the piece \u2014 and it saves me the hassle of switching between windows and tabs several times.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mark_up_and_annotate_any_portion_of_your_screen_with_Win_Shift_S\"><\/span>Mark up and annotate any portion of your screen with <em>Win + Shift + S<\/em><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I take a lot of screenshots for tutorials, troubleshooting my family\u2019s computer woes, and to share ideas with my team. You probably know about how to use the Print Screen key to grab full-size screenshots. But <em>Win + Shift +S<\/em> changes the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> completely.<\/p>\n<p>It basically invokes the Snipping tool, so you can im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely draw a box on your screen to capture just a part of what\u2019s being displayed. The easiest way to hide that clutter without necessarily closing it all \u2014 or worrying about saving my work \u2014 is to use Windows\u2019 excellent Virtual Desktops feature.<\/p>\n<p>All you need to do is hit <em>Win + Ctrl + D<\/em>, and it\u2019s like switching to a fresh space to work on whatever activity you have in mind. All the apps and browser tabs you\u2019d previously opened are still there.<\/p>\n<p>You can create as many virtual desktops as you want, and switch between them using <em>Win + Ctrl + Left<\/em> \/ <em>Win + Ctrl + Right<\/em>. If you\u2019re using a recent or powerful PC, this shouldn\u2019t be a problem.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Launch_any_app_or_file_from_anywhere_with_Alt_Space\"><\/span>Launch any app or file from anywhere with <em>Alt + Space<\/em><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Having used macOS over the years, I\u2019ve always wanted something like its excellent Spotlight feature on Windows to quickly invoke a system-wide search tool and open any app or file on my desktop. Turns out you can do just that, and once you get a taste, you\u2019ll wonder how you managed without it.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to first <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/powertoys\/install\">install Microsoft\u2019s PowerToys<\/a>, which is a free collection of utilities for Windows that really should just be baked into the base OS. Anyway, once you\u2019ve sorted that out, run PowerToys, and then click on PowerToys Run in the left sidebar. Enable this feature by turning on the toggle on the right, and you\u2019re good to go.<\/p>\n<p>Any time you want to launch an app, regardless of whether you\u2019re already running another program, just hit <em>Alt + Space<\/em>. It\u2019ll bring up a floating search bar, in which you can type the name of the app you\u2019re looking for.
