\n Rhode Island\u2019s Division of Taxation turned into a literal Mickey Mouse outfit this week when 176 refund checks were accidentally mailed out bearing the cartoon character\u2019s \u201csignature.\u201d<\/p>\n

The checks, mailed Monday, were signed \u201cMickey Mouse\u201d where General<\/a> Treasurer Seth Magaziner\u2019s name belonged, and \u201cWalt Disney\u201d in the spot reserved for State Controller Peter Keenan, according to multiple reports.<\/p>\n

The \u201ctest signatures\u201d were mistakenly misprinted on the checks due to a \u201ctechnical error\u201d in the state\u2019s automated refund check printing system, Department of Revenue chief of staff Jade Borgeson explained in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a result of a technical error in the Division of Taxation\u2019s automated refund check printing system, app<\/a>roximately 176 checks with invalid signature lines were printed and mailed to taxpayers on Monday 7\/27\/2020,\u201d Borgeson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe invalid signature lines were incorrectly sourced from the Division\u2019s test print files.\u201d<\/p>\n

The misprinted signatures appeared on corporate tax refunds, sales tax rebates, and tax credit refunds. The State also said that the checks have been voided; corrected checks will be issued within a week, officials said.<\/p>\n
