In the eyes of a hacker, that\u2019s a great way into your home\u2019s network.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most people don\u2019t realize how important it is to properly secure your internet connection and router from snoops, hackers, and moochers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You need to keep bad actors out of your devices, too. Your phone contains a ton of personal information, and you need to do more than setting up Face ID or fingerprint scanning to lock it.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to the rest of your tech, it\u2019s never too late to adjust your settings and get back just a little privacy. Let\u2019s dive in.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Hide_your_location\"><\/span><strong>1. Hide your location<\/strong>\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When you unwrap a new gadget, you\u2019re trying to get it up and running as quickly as possible. You might not usually spend much time poking around the settings. The security and privacy settings should be your first stop.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chances are, your internet-connected gadgets are keeping track of your every move \u2014 and that data gets packed up and sold. You\u2019ll need to complete multiple updates from time to time, so make sure to knock them all out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After that, my recommendation is to check each of your devices monthly. It only takes a few minutes, but it could save you a huge hassle down the line. It takes a few minutes, but it\u2019s a way to recoup your device if a hacker somehow takes it over. The manufacturer has proof the device is yours no matter what changes a hacker makes to it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also an essential step if something breaks down the road and still under warranty.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Set_up_a_guest_network_for_all_your_connected_devices\"><\/span><strong>4. Set up a guest network for all your connected devices<\/strong>\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>What\u2019s the first thing you do after setting up a new device? Usually, you\u2019ll connect it to your home\u2019s wireless internet.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, every connected device is a potential way in for bad actors. Randomly generated strings of letters, numbers<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.komando.com\/lifestyle-reviews\/find-your-routers-password-fast-then-change-it\/325751\/\"><u>,<\/u><\/a>\u00a0and characters are best, but they are impossible to remember.
