NASA\u2019s\u00a0 James Webb Space Telescope<\/a> (JWST) is set to launch real soon \u2014 on December 25<\/a> at 07:20am EST (12:20 GMT\/UTC) to be precise \u2014 and the scientific community is buzzing with anticipation. Some scientists are excited at the prospect of \u2018travel<\/a>ing through time\u2019 to discover the origin story of our universe, while others hope it\u2019ll help us connect the dots between classical and quantum physics.<\/p>\n

But at least one researcher believes the JWST could be a harbinger of ill tidings. In an interview<\/a> over the weekend, world-renowned physicist Michio Kaku, one of the scientists responsible for string theory, told the Guardian that he didn\u2019t think humans should contact any aliens we find. Here\u2019s the relevant snippet:<\/p>\n

Soon we\u2019ll have the Webb telescope up in orbit and we\u2019ll have thousands of planets to look at, and that\u2019s why I think the chances are quite high that we may make contact with an alien civilization. There are some colleagues of mine that believe we should reach out to them. I think that\u2019s a terrible idea. We all know what happ<\/a>ened to Montezuma when he met Cort\u00e9s in Mexico so many hundreds of years ago.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
