{"id":38671,"date":"2020-08-01T17:26:00","date_gmt":"2020-08-01T14:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/targeted-black-cop-who-rapped-about-violent-white-men-on-the-beat-feels-vindicated\/"},"modified":"2020-08-01T17:26:00","modified_gmt":"2020-08-01T14:26:00","slug":"targeted-black-cop-who-rapped-about-violent-white-men-on-the-beat-feels-vindicated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/targeted-black-cop-who-rapped-about-violent-white-men-on-the-beat-feels-vindicated\/","title":{"rendered":"#Targeted black cop who rapped about violent \u2018white men on the beat\u2019 feels vindicated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Targeted black cop who r<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed about violent \u2018white men on the beat\u2019 feels vindicated<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n                        A rapping NYPD officer whose lyrics about trigger-happy white cops snowballed into a discrimination lawsuit against the department feels more empowered than ever to speak out against racism, she said \u2014 and claims her white colleagues now support her controversial lyrics.<\/p>\n<p>Midtown North cop Atisha Samuel can\u2019t join in the anti-police brutality protests rocking NYC and the globe, she told The Post, but continues to \u201cprotest in my own way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI walk into work with a shirt like this saying \u2018Unite Against Racism,&#8217;\u201d Samuel explained In a video posted to her \u201cNukstarr\u201d Instagram account. \u201cI\u2019m enlightening my coworkers, letting them know how much we\u2019ve been oppressed as a people and what they need to do to do better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Samuel sued the department last year after facing backlash over an online 2016 music video in which she rapped, \u201cIt\u2019s the war against the white man on the beat \u2014 with his handguns, quick to pull out on a n\u2013-ga if he dare run.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some cops in her stationhouse were offended by the lyric, and tormented her as a result, she claims in a discrimination lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court in July 2019 seeking unspecified damages.<\/p>\n<p>In at least one instance, supervisors did not send backup when Samuel and her partner responded to a call of a violent emotionally disturbed person, she claims in court papers.<\/p>\n<p>Another colleague refused to give Samuel any union cards, telling her, \u201cYou should be ashamed. I saw the video, you talking about hating white cops. You are a disgrace. You should resign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, the message in Samuel\u2019s video \u2014 what she describes as denouncing \u201cviolence in the black community as a whole, from our own people and law enforcement\u201d \u2014 is being echoed worldwide, Samuel said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor it to come out now and be an even bigger movement, it\u2019s definitely been a long time coming, and it needed to happen,\u201d she said. \u201cNow that it is making its way back around again on an even larger platform, it gives me the reassurance I\u2019m standing up for the right cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the three-year veteran said she supports protests against racist cops, she condemned recent attacks against officers and the movement to \u201cdefund\u201d the police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course I don\u2019t want to be defunded, and I don\u2019t think it is going to fix the problem of racism in America,\u201d she said. \u201cThe random attacks on police officers, I think that is terrible, because that could be me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Samuel, 28, whose lawsuit is scheduled for mediation, continues to moonlight as a rapper and maintain an active <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> presence in between patrols.<\/p>\n<p>In one video posted to her Instagram page, the Queens native is pictured sprinkling cash on the backside of a barely-clothed female dancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put it on for my \u2018hood, Exit 13,\u201d she raps, referring to Southern State Parkway Exit 13 to Elmont. \u201cThis that beat that make my new bitch bring me a new bitch, yeah. If she toppin\u2019 me, it means a lot to me, if she can put me straight to sleep like she rockin\u2019 me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Samuel said she has no regrets about the 2016 video.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose are my beliefs. The only thing I am bothered by is the lack of understanding from the officers who felt like I was declaring a war, because that was never anything I was doing. I was speaking about the violence against my people,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Not all cops \u201cmisinterpreted\u201d the lyric, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe white friends I have in the department \u2026 the ones who know me and know black culture, they completely understand,\u201d she said. \u201cI guess it\u2019s just a lot of cops I work with and a lot of cops in the department, they have a lack of understanding, and that\u2019s where the problem is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She is still facing retaliation, her lawyer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat they have done recently, is they have taken her partner and have just been pairing her with random police officers,\u201d Chris Albanese said, adding that the animosity hasn\u2019t diminished Samuel\u2019s passion for policing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe grew up a young African American in New York \u2026 afraid of police, so she wanted to go to the police force so that that young girl could feel comfortable going to a police officer.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16070709\"><img alt=\"Atisha Samuel\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Atisha Samuel<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Samuel declined to address NYPD policies specifically, but her lawyer Vincent White pointed out the irony in targeting a young, black female cop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs much de Blasio wants to pretend to care about the Black Lives Matter movement when he\u2019s painting a street for the cameras \u2026 he has taken no action to help officers like Atisha who are risking their lives to change the system from the inside,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel said, \u201cI\u2019m a proud, strong African American lesbian woman.
