That\u2019s what the latest <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/business-functions\/people-and-organizational-performance\/our-insights\/what-executives-are-saying-about-the-future-of-hybrid-work\">McKinsey research<\/a> says. This new model will dramatically change the way we function and the way we meet.<\/p>\n<p>Getting meetings right will be imperative for any business leader \u2014 whether they run a startup or big corporation \u2014 to create an inclusive and productive environment where people can thrive.<\/p>\n<p>Here are five tested meeting design tactics that have worked for me and my team.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Ask_everyone_to_join_from_their_own_computer\"><\/span>1. Ask everyone to join from their own computer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Even if there\u2019s just one online participant, you should treat your whole meeting as a virtual one. But it ensures that on the call, everyone is represented equally and for online participants, it\u2019s so much easier to navigate.<\/p>\n<p>Using this tactic, don\u2019t forget to tell people to mute themselves to avoid a horrible echo. Our brains are funny that way \u2013 people that we see in 3D seem more real and present than the ones on the screen.<\/p>\n<p>As you enter the meeting, make sure to greet online people by saying something like, \u201cHey Sarah, thanks for joining us from London.\u201d \u201cHey Luke, great to have you here with us.\u201d It\u2019s a small gesture that can go a long way.<\/p>\n<p>In case you\u2019ve got a large audience, you can run a simple word cloud poll asking people to submit where they are joining from. It works like a charm. Christine, what are your thoughts?\u201d It will make them feel more included and respected. Also, this helps you to not forget about them!<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, keep an eye out for people unmuting themselves, and be sensitive to other subtle cues. If I notice that anyone becomes unmuted, it\u2019s a clear sign for me that they want to contribute. I instantly give them a word.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Ask_for_emojis_to_get_instant_feedback\"><\/span>3. We can hardly see facial reactions or read body language. Emojis can be an effective fix to this. Live polling is your best pal here.<\/p>\n<p>The other day we were introducing a new strategy and I wanted to make sure the team was on board.<\/p>\n<p>To do this, I ran a quick poll asking: \u201cOn a scale of 1-6, how confident are you that these are the right priorities?\u201d Giving everyone an opportunity to vote and express their opinion was important and empowering. But we didn\u2019t end there. And you shouldn\u2019t either.<\/p>\n<p>Once you collect the results, engage in a discussion with the team. Trigger a conversation by saying something along the lines of: \u201cI can see it makes sense to some of you, as you\u2019ve voted 6. Who wants to share their opinion?\u201d or \u201cLet\u2019s hear from those who voted 4. What are your concerns?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The discussion that follows is the most valuable part.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Take_questions_throughout_the_meeting\"><\/span>5.
