\n It\u2019s going to take more than a Playtex push-up to stop the \u201csenseless shootings\u201d wreaking havoc on the city, according to a Brooklyn woman whose bra saved her life during deadly gunplay a little over a year ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody knows how to be civil. Everybody is resorting to gun violence,\u201d 22-year-old Daniesa Murdaugh fumed to The Post. \u201cPeople are angry. They don\u2019t know how to get that anger out. I\u2019m not justifying nothing. I honestly felt like this was coming because we were quarantined.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Murdaugh knows about gun violence. On July 27, 2019, she was among 12 people shot \u2014 two of whom died \u2014 in a wild shoot-out at a packed Brownsville block party\u00a0 Miraculously, Murdaugh escaped with a graze wound after her bra stopped a bullet.<\/p>\n

Murdaugh said the recent wave of violence is sparking \u201cflashbacks,\u201d but the ardent supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement noted it\u2019s the community \u2014 not the cops \u2014 who should be held accountable.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very frustrating. Everybody wants to scream Black Lives Matter but there is more black on black crimes than there is police brutality crimes,\u201d she said. \u201c<\/span>I absolutely feel there\u2019s a need for police reform. The training is not preparing them for what they\u2019re coming out to \u2026 [But] t<\/span>his is down to us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s definitely a need for police reform and there\u2019s definitely a need for police,\u201d Murdaugh said.<\/span><\/p>\n

NYPD statistics show shootings have more than doubled for the year, with about 200 more victims than the same time last year, according to data released Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last July 27,\u00a0Murdaugh \u201cfelt a sting\u201d in her back, but initially didn\u2019t pay it much mind. \u201cI was looking for the people I came with and I reached back and felt wet in my back. \u2026 I felt the bullet and I touched the blood. \u2026 I reached my left hand underneath and back and I felt it. I told my friends, \u2018I\u2019ve been shot.’\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When medics unhooked her bra, \u201cthe bullet was just sitting in the bra strap and it just fell out,\u201d Murdaugh\u2019s mom, Odessa Watson told The Post at the time.<\/p>\n

The bra stopped the bullet, but not the lingering scars.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m slowly trying to get back into society. I\u2019ve been taking it one day at a time. Even though the physical pain is gone, I still have anxiety,\u201d said Murdaugh, adding she has nightmares about the bloody mayhem at the annual Old Timers Day event, which was held again about a month ago. \u201cIn the dreams the outcomes are always different, but never good.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old currently works overnight at an Amazon warehouse, but the daughter of a traffic agent aspires to be a city Correction officer.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrow up and learn to walk away from the little things that don\u2019t require your energy nor your time,\u201d she advises young people. \u201cPut that time and energy into something productive. Something that will help your community, not destroy it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murdaugh confessed she was \u201csheltered\u201d growing up in Brooklyn and did not experience the violence first-hand. But now she has, and \u201cto see and hear all that\u2019s been happ<\/a>ening is sad.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A year after her own shooting, Murdaugh is grateful for her black Rainbow bra, and something bigger.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople say, \u2018Thanks to the bra.\u2019 It was thanks to God. <\/span>I\u2019m going to honor life .. but I\u2019m definitely going to pray.\u201d<\/span>\n <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
