The best is yet to come!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ABC also announced that the R&amp;B singer Chl\u00f6e, who had previously been scheduled to perform on the special, will no longer make an appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Other acts still slated for the show \u2014 which first began as an end of year tradition on NBC in 1972 \u2014 include \u201cPose\u201d star Billy Porter, rock group Journey and reggaeton singer Karol G.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Last week, ABC said it planned to play its Dec. 31 show by ear and follow New York City\u2019s lead for coronavirus safety-related guidance.<\/p>\n<p>The Times Square ball drop, while still set to happen, is heavily restricted, with masks required and crowd sizes capped amid the new Omicron variant of the virus causing caseloads to dramatically surge across the boroughs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a lot to celebrate and these additional safety measures will keep the fully vaccinated crowd safe and healthy as we ring in the New Year,\u201d Mayor de Blasio said in a statement. \u201cNew Yorkers have stepped up tremendously over the past year \u2014 we are leading the way on vaccinations, we have reopened safely, and every day we work toward building a recovery for all of us.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
