Several Pixel 6 owners report that their phone \u201cfreezes\u201d while scrolling through app<\/a>s or playing game<\/a>s. This is a known bug<\/a> related to Android\u2019s Accessibility Services, and until Google pushes a fix, there\u2019s just one workaround to get your Pixel working normally\u2014disable Accessibility Services.<\/p>\n

First, what\u2019s really happening here? Pixel 6 devices aren\u2019t actually \u201cfreezing.\u201d Instead, they\u2019re temporarily ignoring touchscreen inputs. When the Pixel 6 \u201cunfreezes,\u201d all of your ignored inputs suddenly register, causing a cascade of unintended swipes and gestures.<\/p>\n

Reddit<\/a> user u\/micku7zu<\/a> discovered that this problem disappears when you disable \u201ccanPerformGesture\u201d Accessibility permissions. Evidently, an Accessibility tool is unintentionally pausing touchscreen inputs every time your Pixel 6\u2019s battery drops by a percent.<\/p>\n

Google is now working on a fix<\/a> for this bug. But until that fix arrives through a firmware update, there\u2019s only one way to keep this bug from happening; you have to disable all<\/em> Accessibility Services. Go in your Settings and turn off all Accessibility tools, even password managers and other apps that aren\u2019t explicitly made for Accessibility purposes. (By the way, if your password manager isn\u2019t working on Pixel 6, this bug is probably to blame.)<\/p>\n

This is not an ideal workaround. Not all Pixel 6 owners have the luxury of turning off tools like Voice Access or Accessibility Shortcut. But again, it\u2019s the only way to keep your Pixel 6 from \u201cfreezing\u201d until Google rolls out an official fix.<\/p>\n
