{"id":387907,"date":"2021-12-31T02:05:11","date_gmt":"2021-12-30T23:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nyc-is-getting-a-bevy-of-new-hotels-despite-covid-spike\/"},"modified":"2021-12-31T02:05:11","modified_gmt":"2021-12-30T23:05:11","slug":"nyc-is-getting-a-bevy-of-new-hotels-despite-covid-spike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nyc-is-getting-a-bevy-of-new-hotels-despite-covid-spike\/","title":{"rendered":"#NYC is getting a bevy of new hotels despite COVID spike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NYC is getting a bevy of new hotels despite COVID spike<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Shaken, but things are stirring.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, the city\u2019s hotel biz took a gut punch this year \u2014 we lost icons like the Gramercy Park hotel and the ultra-trendy NoMad Hotel \u2014 but according to Joel Rosen, president of New York-based GFI Hospitality, a real estate development and investment company, it was no knockout blow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s coming back,\u201d said Rosen, whose company opened the Thompson Central Park in November (formerly the Parker). \u201cIt\u2019s not robust, but is the hotel business over? No, not at all.\u00a0 New York real estate is historically very resilient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He gives the global recession fo 2008 as one example: \u201cIt was all doom and gloom but it came back, better than ever,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, GFI has seen tremendous hotel development growth this past decade. The entertainment and leisure activities bounced back. The restaurants came back to resounding enthusiasm from locals and tourists. There is tremendous pent-up demand to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>. And rates have held pretty steady, which is surprising and helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/travel-hotels-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"The bar at the Ace Hotel Brooklyn.\" class=\"wp-image-20663617\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/travel-hotels-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/travel-hotels-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/travel-hotels-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Rates at the Civilian start at a modest $127 a night.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Johnny Miller<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>We\u2019re already seeing a burst of new hotels opening their doors, including the new-build luxury <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pendry.com\/manhattan-west\/\">Pendry Manhattan West<\/a>, the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.themoorenyc.com\/\">Moore Hotel<\/a> in Chelsea, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.civilianhotel.com\/\">Civilian NYC<\/a> in New York\u2019s Theater District, the reimagined <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.parklanenewyork.com\/\">Park Lane New York<\/a> on Central Park South, the new construction <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ritzcarlton.com\/en\/hotels\/new-york\/nomad\">Ritz-Carlton New York<\/a> in Nomad opening February 2022 at 1185 Broadway and 28th Street and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefifthavenuehotel.com\/\">the Fifth Avenue Hotel<\/a>, a six-story, turn-of-the-century building with an added 24-story new-built tower, at West 28th Street and Fifth Avenue, also due early in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Next year, French hotel brand Group Barri\u00e8re will unveil its first US hotel, H\u00f4tel Barri\u00e8re Le Fouquet\u2019s New York, right in Tribeca at 456 Greenwich St. This eight-story hotel will consist of 96 guest rooms and suites, several restaurants, a 1,500-square-foot interior courtyard, a spa, a swimming pool and a state-of-the-art screening room \u2014 a perfect addition, what with the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival on its doorstep.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re hoping it will be a premiere place for the festival attendees,\u201d said Joshua Caspi, principal at Caspi Development, whose hotel, residential and office real estate portfolio stretches across the New York metropolitan area, including Chambers Hotel on West 56th and the Watson Hotel on West 57th.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no denying 2021\u2019s COVID shutdown put a dent in H\u00f4tel Barri\u00e8re Le Fouquet\u2019s New York\u2019s unveiling: \u201cThat wasn\u2019t pleasant: It gave us a 71-day shutdown that cost us a couple million bucks,\u201d said Caspi. \u201cBut we have plenty of experience with keeping the boat afloat. I think that as fast as the acceleration went on the way down, it will match it on the way back up.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignleft\">\n<blockquote><p>We\u2019re in contracts with five more hotel developments in New York City and around the country<\/p>\n<p><cite>Joshua Caspi, principal at Caspi Development<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Longterm, Caspi is very excited, too: \u201cWe\u2019re in contracts with five more hotel developments in New York City and around the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the new Omicron wave, Rosen also sees light at the end of the tunnel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are cautiously optimistic,\u201d Rosen said.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
