Despite\u00a0objections to the premise by prominent historians, the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> has been turned by journalism organization the Pulitzer Center into a school curriculum, which is regularly promoted by the paper.<\/p>\n<p>Hannah-Jones was asked on Sunday\u2019s edition of\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc.com\/meet-the-press\/video\/meet-the-press-122621\/9000174777\">NBC News\u2019 \u201cMeet the Press\u201d\u00a0<\/a>whether she intended the project for use in public school\u00a0curricula\u00a0or to trigger debate over the teaching of American history.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hannah-Jones said it was envisioned as a \u201cwork of journalism\u201d that\u00a0could\u00a0be used\u00a0as\u00a0a \u201cgreat learning tool for students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow the New York Times has an education division. The New York Times regularly turns its journalism into curriculum, as does the Pulitzer Center, who we ultimately partnered with,\u201d she explained. \u201cThey are constantly turning works of journalism into curriculum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hannah-Jones admitted that the 1619 Project had become controversial, but claimed that was the case \u201cbecause people have decided to make the 1619 Project controversial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say the governor\u2019s race in Virginia was decided based on the success of a right-wing propaganda campaign that told white parents that they needed to fight against their children being indoctrinated as race \u2014 as being called racists,\u201d she alleged.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/Hannah-Jones-book.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Nikole Hannah-Jones argued that parents and lawmakers should leave the question of what to teach in schools up to teachers and administrators.\" class=\"wp-image-20627143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/Hannah-Jones-book.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/Hannah-Jones-book.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/Hannah-Jones-book.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Nikole Hannah-Jones argued that parents and lawmakers should leave the question of what to teach in schools up to teachers and administrators.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Jason Armond \/ Los Angeles Times\/Polaris<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The addition of critical race theory to K-12 curriculums sparked furious debate at a number of school board meetings in the run-up to the Virginia election \u2014 which was won by Republican political novice Glenn Youngkin \u2014 and some states have passed legislation barring the teaching of CRT in schools.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hannah-Jones argued on NBC Sunday that parents and lawmakers should leave the question of what to teach in schools up to teachers and administrators.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I think we should frame that question properly,\u201d she \u200bsaid. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t really understand this idea that parents should decide what\u2019s being taught.\u200b\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u200b\u201dI\u2019m not a professional educator. I don\u2019t have a degree in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> studies or <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a>\u200b.\u200b \u200bWe send our children to school because we want them to be taught by people who have expertise in the subject area. And that is not my job\u200b,\u201d she continued.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>Terry McAuliffe, the unsuccessful Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Virginia, made similar statements during his losing campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach\u200b,\u201d he said during a debate in September.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u201d\u200bHe was panned for that, but that\u2019s just the fact,\u201d Hannah-Jones said Sunday. \u201cThis is why we send our children to school and don\u2019t homeschool, because these are the professional educators who have the expertise to teach social studies, to teach history, to teach science, to teach literature, and I think we should leave that to the educators. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, we should have some say, but school is not about simply confirming our worldview,\u201d she added. \u201cSchools should teach us to question.
