{"id":388389,"date":"2022-01-01T18:19:29","date_gmt":"2022-01-01T15:19:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/startup-rentbrella-launches-umbrella-sharing-app-in-nyc\/"},"modified":"2022-01-01T18:19:29","modified_gmt":"2022-01-01T15:19:29","slug":"startup-rentbrella-launches-umbrella-sharing-app-in-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/startup-rentbrella-launches-umbrella-sharing-app-in-nyc\/","title":{"rendered":"#Startup Rentbrella launches umbrella-sharing app in NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Startup Rentbrella launches umbrella-sharing <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a> in NYC<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>A new umbrella-sharing startup is expanding in New York City \u2014 and says it will do for umbrellas what Citibike did for bicycles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rentbrella, an app that was first launched in Brazil in 2018, is setting up automat-like kiosks stocked with 100 umbrellas each across the Big Apple \u2014 and rentals are free for the first 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Citibike-like system, New Yorkers use Rentbrella\u2019s phone app to scan codes that allow them to unlock and return umbrellas at different kiosks \u2014 a service aimed at commuters who find themselves in a pinch and don\u2019t want to shell out $10 or $15 for a bodega parasol, according to co-founder Freddy Marcos.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur model is very simple\u201d Marcos told The Post. \u201cThey take an umbrella, they go home, then the next day they return it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If customers don\u2019t return the umbrella within 24 hours, they\u2019re charged $2 for the second day and another $2 for the third day. The company currently has 3,500 umbrellas in 35 kiosks across Manhattan and Brooklyn with plans to get to 100 stations early next year, the founder said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since occasional $2 fees don\u2019t translate into a deluge of cash, Rentbrella plans to make money by selling advertisements on the umbrellas. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a model that Marcos said has worked in S\u00e3o Paulo, where the company has nearly 400 stations and is turning a profit thanks largely to ads from a health insurance company called Unimed.<\/p>\n<p>Rentbrella doesn\u2019t have any sponsors in New York yet but plans to start selling ad space when it reaches 100 stations, according to Marcos. And while the stations are currently mostly concentrated in Manhattan office and residential towers, the founder said he would love to eventually place them in subway stations across the five boroughs.<\/p>\n<p>Rentbrella says it currently has partnerships with real estate companies including WeWork, Braun Management, Moinian Group, Tishman Speyer, Beacon Capital, Chetrit Group, Meringoff Properties and Feldman Realty Group.<\/p>\n<p>Rentbrella plans to launch in London in early 2022 and would like to expand to other cities in the US and Europe, Marcos said.
