Kathy Hochul insisted that her policies were focused on keeping students inside their classrooms.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Darren McGee- Office of Governor<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Also Monday, a coalition of 20 parent associations \u2014 including Keep NYC Schools Open \u2014 issued a statement against renewed remote learning, saying: \u201cWe cannot move backwards: we must move forward and restore normalcy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, parents called on Gov. Kathy Hochul to ease the isolation period for kids who test positive from 10 to five days, as she did on Dec. 24 for multiple categories of \u201cessential workers\u201d across the state, including teachers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy are there two sets of guidelines?\u201d said parent Jean Hahn of Queens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very confusing. I think the biggest failing of public policy is that they can\u2019t get their messaging right and there are different standards that aren\u2019t based on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hahn added: \u201cIt\u2019s adding to the hysteria. It\u2019s not fair to teachers, either.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kelleher added: \u201cThe unions want to shut down schools, in my belief, and the kids are caught in the middle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Assemblyman Mike Lawler (R-Rockland County), an Education Committee member, said Hochul\u2019s \u201cpolicy makes no sense.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it is safe for adults to return to work within five days of testing positive, it should be safe for children to return to school,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Lawler also accused Hochul of \u201cfollowing the same science\u201d as former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who infamously \u201cmandated the sale of \u2018Cuomo Chips\u2019 to drink at a bar\u201d amid mass gatherings that followed the first wave of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>During a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> conference in Rochester, Hochul insisted that her policies were \u201call about keeping kids in school\u201d but was vague on whether she planned to shorten the isolation period for infected students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are refining everything,\u201d she said during a Q&amp;A session with local reporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, we react to what the [US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] allows us to do, then we have to adapt.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/teachers-07.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"A vaccinate advertisment hangs outside of Clara Barton High School in Brooklyn.\" class=\"wp-image-20702718\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/teachers-07.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/teachers-07.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/teachers-07.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Teachers unions, such as the UFT, have filed a lawsuit to mandate remote learning for 2 weeks so that students and faculty can be tested for COVID-19.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Stephen Yang<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And although Hochul said, \u201cI\u2019ll get back to students,\u201d she never actually did, except to pivot and decry the \u201cdigital divide\u201d that made remote learning especially difficult for \u201ccommunities of color [that] \u00a0did not have access to high-speed broadband are the devices to allow students to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best place for equality of education, the best opportunities for learning, is in a classroom,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Later, Hochul was asked what message she wanted to send to parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy view is that every child should be back in school unless they\u2019re testing positive,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the reason we know that this is safe is that it is not being spread in schools.
