Today, we\u2019re watching a video essay about the iconic hospital jump scare in The Exorcist III.&lt;\/em&gt;\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<hr\/>\n<p><em><strong>The Exorcist III<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>is a miracle for a number of reasons. It\u2019s both jarringly singular and a rock-solid follow-up to one of the most popular films ever made. It also holds the unique status as one of the two films <strong>William Peter Blatty<\/strong>\u00a0directed, the other being 1980\u2019s <em>The Ninth Configuration<\/em>. It is a top-shelf <em>Exorcist\u00a0<\/em>sequel despite not initially being conceived as such. And as if its existence weren\u2019t freakish enough, its direct predecessor (1977\u2019s <em>Exorcist II: The Heretic<\/em>) is widely considered one of the\u00a0<em>worst\u00a0<\/em>sequels of all time (even by its director,\u00a0John Boorman).<\/p>\n<p>And if all that miraculous context weren\u2019t enough, <em>The Exorcist III\u00a0<\/em>also contains the best jump scare of all time. No small feat considering shockers tend to register as cheap scares rather than well-earned jolts.<\/p>\n<p>More beholden to Blatty\u2019s 1983 horror novel <em>Legion <\/em>than the films of William Friedkin or Boorman, The<em> Exorcist III\u00a0<\/em>is less of a religious spookfest than a theological murder mystery. Set 15 years after poor little Regan MacNeil fell prey to demonic possession, Lieutenant Kinderman (<strong>Geroge C. Scott<\/strong>) battles his own demons, chiefly a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of murders carrying the hallmarks of a supposedly deceased serial killer. When a recovered catatonic patient in a psychiatric holding cell claims to be the killer, Kinderman is horrified to discover the man looks just like his dead best friend, Father Damien Karras.<\/p>\n<p>During an encounter with the man who <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears to be Karras, Kinderman hears half-mumbled prophecies of a deadly fate for someone named Amy. That night, Blatty whisks us away to a hospital hallway, where we linger, in absolute stillness.
