“#Northeast snowstorm could evolve into ‘bomb cyclone’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n

A quick-moving storm travel<\/a>ing into the Northeast could strengthen into the winter season\u2019s first \u201cbomb cyclone\u201d on Friday morning \u2013 dumping up to six inches of snow in New York City, forecasters said. <\/p>\n

The storm is expected to hamper the morning commute across the tri-state area, Accuweather.com reported<\/a>, with some spots receiving a powerful burst of 1-2 inches of snow per hour.<\/p>\n

Air travelers are also feeling the impact as more than 2,200 flights were canceled<\/a> with hundreds in the Northeast.<\/p>\n

Locations under any intense snow bands could endure \u201ca nightmare\u201d commute, AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter said.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared<\/a> a state of emergency ahead of the storm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Snowfall totals along the East Coast ranged from 2 inches in parts of Maryland and Pennsylvania and as much as 18 inches in New York, as of Thursday night. Snowfall totals are expected to increase as the storm continues to move through.<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania officials delivered safety messages to residents as the state prepared for snow.<\/p>\n

As the storm strengthens off the New England coast, it could evolve into a \u201cbomb cyclone\u201d \u2013 characterized as an intense weather event marked by a quick drop in barometric pressure that brings heavy precipitation and gusty winds.<\/p>\n
