“#Dan Patrick’s wife convinced him to leave ESPN<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Dan Patrick has shed some light on what convinced him it was time to leave ESPN\u2019s media<\/a> empire.<\/p>\n

The legendary broadcaster app<\/a>eared on Kyle Brandt\u2019s \u201c10 Questions\u201d podcast<\/a> and explained he was about to sign a five-year deal with the Mothership \u2014 until his wife, Susan, gave him some perspective on why that may not be his best course.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy four kids were aged 9-15, and I was going to sign a new five-year deal at ESPN,\u201d Patrick said. \u201cI remember that morning, my wife said, \u2018Are you sure you want to do this?\u2019 She said, \u2018They\u2019re all gonna be out of the house when you\u2019re done with this.\u2019 I\u2019m not even thinking that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, Patrick was thinking about how much the company would pay him and for how many shows. He went into ESPN offices in Bristol and rejected their offer. <\/p>\n

\u201cI remember going in, and I went upstairs, and my boss said, \u2018What are you gonna do? Take it or leave it.\u2019 I paused, and said, \u2018I\u2019m gonna leave it.\u2019 He didn\u2019t hear me \u2026 I said, \u2018No, I\u2019m gonna leave.\u2019<\/p>\n

Patrick said he went outside, called his wife, and she told him that even if they had to sell their house, it was okay. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s when it hit me: She had perspective, I had none,\u201d Patrick said. \u201cI\u2019m on TV, making great money. She\u2019s raising the kids. I was so blind to it. And thank God I came home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patrick left ESPN in 2007, and launched his radio show months later, which has since become syndicated and can be streamed on NBC\u2019s Peacock platform.<\/p>\n

In succeeding, he set the template for a bevy of other talents over the past 15 years that there can indeed be fruitful professional life outside of the four letters.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
