\n This didn\u2019t finish Jed Lowrie\u2019s Mets career. But it certainly makes it seem like his time with the Mets will entail seven at-bats and two years almost entirely spent on the sideline.<\/p>\n

To make room on the roster for activated pitcher Jared Hughes, the Mets placed Lowrie on the 45-day Injured List on Sunday. It\u2019s retroactive to July 20, meaning he won\u2019t be eligible to be activated until early September.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the Mets offered a prognosis of the oft-injured infielder: He has PCL laxity in his left knee. General<\/a> manager Brodie Van Wagenen described the injury as looseness in the joint, causing destabilization. Van Wagenen wouldn\u2019t rule out the possibility of surgery for the player who took just eight trip<\/a>s to the plate since signing a two-year, $20 million deal with the Mets before last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he wears that larger brace that pain is mitigated and when he plays in a smaller brace that pain increases,\u201d Van Wagenen said previously. \u201cHe\u2019s been able to feel, close to, if not 100 percent, while wearing the larger brace. The challenge is getting that same strength and stabilization when he\u2019s transitioned to the other braces.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019s going to have even more time now to try get himself ready to make one final run at contributing to the Mets. The odds would app<\/a>ear slim.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
