You may also feel a crunching sensation when sticking a cable in your phone, which is a sure sign that something\u2019s getting scratched or bent.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you don\u2019t see a cartoonish lump of lint sticking out of your phone\u2019s USB-C port, it\u2019s time to clean the dang thing. As for the toothbrush, it might leave plastic bristles in your phone.<\/p>\n<p>And for the love of all that is holy, don\u2019t stick bobby pins or other pieces of metal in any of your phone\u2019s holes. You\u2019ll just scratch up the connectors.<\/p>\n<p>Here are four easy steps to safely clean your phone\u2019s USB-C port:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Assess the Mess<\/strong>: Before you start anything, get a bright flashlight to look in your phone\u2019s USB-C port. After all, it\u2019s hard to clean what you can\u2019t see!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Start with Compressed Air<\/strong>: <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Falcon-Compressed-Disposable-Cleaning-DPSJB\/dp\/B0000AE67M\/?tag=reviewgeek-20\">Canned air<\/a> or a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Canless-Air-Hurricane-Compressed-Electronics\/dp\/B081XGWM72\/?tag=reviewgeek-20\">canless air duster<\/a> can get most of the lint and debris out of your phone\u2019s USB-C port. Just remember to spray in short bursts and hold the can upright to avoid getting a bunch of cold liquid all over your phone. (Also, don\u2019t blow in your phone with your mouth. You\u2019ll fill it with moisture.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use a Plastic Toothpick<\/strong> <strong>for Stubborn Debris<\/strong>: Don\u2019t even try to stick cotton swabs or metal objects in your phone\u2019s USB-C port. That\u2019s why you should build some simple habits to keep the crap out of your phone\u2019s port\u2014I swear it\u2019s easy!<\/p>\n<p>Here are some easy things you can do to keep your phone USB-C port clean:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Wash Your Clothes<\/strong>: The insides of your pockets shouldn\u2019t be full of lint, dirt, sand, or small pieces of disintegrated trash. Empty out those pockets and turn your pants inside-out when you wash them. Also, make sure to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesavvy.com\/90042\/you-only-need-one-thing-to-clean-your-dryers-lint-screen\/\">clean the lint trap<\/a> every time you use a clothes dryer\u2014otherwise, it won\u2019t trap lint! (Lint buildup also makes dryers less efficient and can start fires.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clean Your Purse or Bag<\/strong>: Are you carrying lint, sand, tissue fragments, or eyeliner pencil dust in your bag? You can use these covers every day, but for what it\u2019s worth, I only use them when I go to the beach.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Try a Magnetic Phone Charger<\/strong>: <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Digital-Ant-i-Product-Compatible-Micro-USB\/dp\/B07GWLF4GR?tag=reviewgeek-20\">Magnetic charging cables<\/a> are pretty neat. Basically, you leave a magnet in your phone\u2019s USB-C port, and when it\u2019s time to charge, you just connect the magnet to a cable. Because your USB-C port is covered by the magnet, it won\u2019t fill with dirt or lint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your phone should find itself around a lot less dirt and lint once you learn some of these habits.
