Google Assistant smart speakers and displays are easy for kids to use, but you may not want them to always have access. Thankfully, you can restrict when voice commands will be enabled. We\u2019ll show you how to do it.<\/p>\n

This feature is especially useful for those times of the day when you don\u2019t want your kids to be able to use a Google Nest or Google Home smart speaker. For example, if you have a speaker in their room, you probably don\u2019t want them to use it when they\u2019re supposed to be sleeping.<\/p>\n

To get started, open the Google Home app<\/a> on your iPhone<\/a>, iPad<\/a>, or Android<\/a> device. Scroll down and select the smart speaker or display you want to control.<\/p>\n

Next, tap the gear icon in the top right to open the Settings.<\/p>\n

Head over to \u201cNotifications & Digital Wellbeing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

Finally, select \u201cDigital Wellbeing.\u201d You\u2019ll be guided through a couple of splash screens.<\/p>\n

\"Tap<\/p>\n

We want the \u201cDowntime\u201d settings, but\u00a0first you\u2019ll have to go through \u201cFilters.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a good idea to set this up if you have kids, but you can skip through it until you get to \u201cDowntime\u201d if you just want to restrict access at certain times.<\/p>\n

Select \u201cSet Up\u201d to proceed with the Downtime settings.<\/p>\n

\"Tap<\/p>\n

Downtime will block all responses, music, and videos, but alarms and timers will still work. Tap \u201cNext.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first thing to decide is who you want the Downtime settings to apply to. You can select one of the two options here:<\/p>\n
