And there\u2019s going to be some bumps before we get there,\u201d Dr. David Nabarro<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/covid-19-end-in-sight-but-there-will-be-more-bumps-for-next-three-months-who-envoy-12512938\"> told Sky News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nabarro said that new variants could play a role in upcoming waves, putting more strain on already overwhelmed health systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, this virus is continuing to evolve \u2013 we have Omicron but we\u2019ll get more variants,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecondly, it really is affecting the whole world. And, [while] health services in western Europe are just about coping, in many other parts of the world they are completely overwhelmed,\u201d Nabarro continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd thirdly, it\u2019s really clear that there\u2019s no scope for major restrictions in any country, particularly poor countries. And there\u2019s going to be some bumps before we get there,\u201d Dr. David Nabarro said.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Fabrice Coffrin\/AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be difficult for the next three months at least,\u201d Nabarro added.<\/p>\n<p>Experts have started to look ahead to when the virus will become endemic like influenza, which is constantly circulating but not a major concern.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about the possibility of surges of the deadly bug two or three times a year, he said that \u201cthe way this virus is behaving, and has behaved really since we first met it, is that it builds up and then surges quite dramatically, and then it comes down again, and then surges again about every three or four months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s difficult to use past behavior to predict the future.
