\n Thousands of people in\u00a0Southern California\u00a0are under\u00a0evacuation orders\u00a0on Sunday after a\u00a0wildfire\u00a0exploded in size,\u00a0destroying\u00a0at least one home.<\/p>\n

The Riverside County Fire Department said\u00a0the blaze, known as the\u00a0Apple Fire, has scorched about 20,516 acres and is at zero percent containment\u00a0as it burns in an area straddling Riverside and\u00a0San Bernardino counties\u00a0in the mountains east of\u00a0Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The blaze grew by more than 13,000 acres in less than a day as it burned through dry brush and timber.
<\/br>
\nA man who has lived in the area near San Bernardino National Forest\u00a0told KTLA\u00a0on Saturday that conditions were prime for a destructive blaze.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though we\u2019ve had fires in the past, it\u2019s been a number of years,\u201d the man, who only gave his first name, Bill, told KTLA. \u201cSo there\u2019s a lot of heavy fuel out there. It\u2019s dry, it was 106 degrees yesterday \u2014 perfect conditions for something to really get going, and that\u2019s what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

No injuries have been reported, but some 8,000 people are under evacuation orders in mountain,
<\/br>
\ncanyon and foothill neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

The blaze began as two adjacent fires reported Friday evening in Cherry Valley, an unincorporated area near the city of Beaumont about 85 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The cause is under investigation.<\/p>\n

Flames on Saturday leaped along brushy ridge tops and came close to homes while firefighters attacked it from the ground and air.<\/p>\n

One home and two outbuildings were destroyed, Cal Fire said.<\/p>\n

A huge smoke plume was visible for miles around and contributed to poor air quality for the region.\u00a0Air quality will be unhealthy through Sunday night in areas to the east due to the massive blaze,\u00a0FOX11 reported.<\/p>\n

Videos posted to social media<\/a> showed the extent of the smoke in the area.<\/p>\n

The National Weather Service (NWS) said Sunday that smoke from the blaze was reaching as far east as Phoenix.<\/p>\n

Conditions in the area are not expected to improve anytime soon.<\/p>\n

Temperatures reached 105 degrees Fahrenheit on Saturday in nearby Palm Springs.<\/p>\n

The NWS said \u201cdangerously hot conditions\u201d were expected to continue because of high pressure over much of Southern California.<\/p>\n
