The study was published Monday in the journal Current Biology, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/news-releases\/938835\">according to Eureka Alert.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe dolphin clitoris has many features to suggest that it functions to provide pleasure to females,\u201d said Patricia Brennan, an assistant biology professor at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, who authored the amorous article.<\/p>\n<p>Brennan got inspired to conduct the research while studying dolphin clitoral evolution. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"798\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/dolphin-sexual-anatomy-5.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Dolphins use their clitorises for more than reproduction.\" class=\"wp-image-20794803\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/dolphin-sexual-anatomy-5.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/dolphin-sexual-anatomy-5.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/dolphin-sexual-anatomy-5.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Dolphins use their clitorises for more than reproduction.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Patricia Brennan<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cEvery time we dissected a vagina, we would see this very large clitoris, and we were curious whether anyone had examined it in detail to see if it worked like a human clitoris,\u201d Brennan explained. \u201cWe knew that dolphins have sex not just to reproduce, but also to solidify <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> bonds, so it seemed likely that the clitoris could be functional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To determine that dolphins\u2019 sex organs are not just for procreation, Brennan and her team examined the anatomy of 11 bottlenose dolphins that were found dead on US beaches.<\/p>\n<p>They found that their vulvas were surprisingly \u201csimilar\u201d to the shape of a human\u2019s, which Brennan found interesting given that \u201centire pelvis of dolphins is so different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just like their bipedal brethren, the female bottlenose\u2019s sex organ is enveloped in a hood, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/2303662-what-dolphins-reveal-about-the-evolution-of-the-clitoris\/\">New Scientist reported. <\/a>As the critter matures, this cover becomes wrinkled, potentially causing the vulva tip to become engorged with blood when aroused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso, the size of the nerves in the clitoris body was very surprising,\u201d Brennan said. \u201cSome were larger than half a millimeter in diameter.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Her dolphin pleasure theory is supported by the fact that their vaginas are located in a spot that would make coital stimulation nearly inevitable.
