In 2013, he created the social VR company, High Fidelity. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Philip Rosedale returning to Linden Labs (breaking <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> today) definitely reminds me of Steve Jobs in the 90s returning to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/secondlife?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#secondlife<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/metaverse?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#metaverse<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Andrew Oleksiuk (they\/them) (@Andrew_Oleksiuk) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Andrew_Oleksiuk\/status\/1481694032401207305?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 13, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nIn a Jan. 13 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lindenlab.com\/releases\/high-fidelity-invests-in-second-life\">announcement<\/a>, High Fidelity said it is investing in Linden Labs with both cash and what is described as \u201cdistributed computing patents,\u201d including two regarding community moderation in decentralized environments. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cVirtual worlds don\u2019t need to be dystopias,\u201d Rosedale said. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBig Tech giving away VR headsets and building a metaverse on their ad-driven, behavior-modification platforms isn\u2019t going to create a magical, single digital utopia for everyone.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_will_the_future_look_like\"><\/span>What will the future look like? <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/tech\/computing\/second-life-founder-returns-to-revamp-his-original-metaverse\/\">interview<\/a> with Cnet <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technology<\/a>, Rosedale said that beyond exploring the possibility of adding VR tech to Second Life, advanced avatar animations using facial tracking cameras could also be a future possibility. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Using the webcam to animate an avatar, that&#8217;s a really interesting in-between,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Not enough people are looking at that space, that&#8217;s one that I&#8217;ve spent a lot of time thinking about.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As for the possibility of incorporating new ideas like interoperable non-fungible items into Second Life, Rosedale will need some convincing. In the Metaverse, interoperable content are items which can be bought on one platform and carried over to another. <\/p>\n<p>He referenced the way branded content can negatively break the fourth wall in Metaverse platforms, saying that in the short term, \u201ccontent interoperability is one of these things that only a brand could love.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAs a way of further connecting games to each other, it&#8217;s a total fail. The near-term idea is dumb.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, he didn\u2019t shun the use of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), saying that the \u201clong-term idea is totally correct.\u201d Second Life already has its own economy and currency, \u201cLinden Dollars.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Meta poaches staff from Microsoft and Apple for metaverse plans<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Rosedale, there are 375 million items sold on the Second Life marketplace each year, for around $2 each. In his opinion, these items are essentially already NFTs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose are all NFTs \u2014 basically, the core idea of allowing digital assets to be marked and allowing them to be tradable and shareable,\u201d he said, adding that this concept is only \u201cgoing to get bigger and bigger and bigger. Of course, these items inside Second Life aren\u2019t recorded on the blockchain, and therefore cannot exist outside the game \u2013 which are essential properties of NFTs. <\/p>\n<p>Now in its 19th year of operation, Second Life claims an annual GDP of $650 million, with over 8 million unique items sold on its Marketplace.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
