“#ESPN’s Greg McElroy challenges Kayvon Thibodeaux to Wonderlic<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

We may have a brewing battle of the wits.<\/p>\n

Greg McElroy, a college football analyst at ESPN and former quarterback at Alabama and for the Jets, challenged<\/a> top 2022 NFL Draft prospect Kayvon Thibodeaux to a Wonderlic duel.<\/p>\n

This challenge stems from Thibodeaux ripping the academics at Alabama. <\/p>\n

\u201cI already hate the stigmatism of football players being dumb jocks,\u201d Thibodeaux said in an interview with Fox Sports when asked about choosing Oregon over Alabama. \u201cSo now, do you know the stigmatism of Alabama education? It ain\u2019t the West Coast. It ain\u2019t Harvard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thibodeaux played defensive end for Oregon and had seven sacks this past season. Many mock drafts have him going No. 1 overall to the Jaguars. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf I would have went to Alabama \u2026 I don\u2019t know if my degree would mean anything,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

McElroy, who played for Alabama from 2007-10 and was the Jets\u2019 backup quarterback in 2012, was taken aback by the perceived condescension. He addressed it on WJOX\u2019s
\u201cMcElroy & Cubelic in the Morning.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just take real personal offense, man,\u201d McElroy said Thursday. \u201cI genuinely do. I don\u2019t care. Don\u2019t come. If you think so little of us, don\u2019t come. Fine by me, because I know the people that live in this state. I chose Alabama, because I love Alabama. \u2026 If you don\u2019t want to see Alabama for the greatness it can potentially provide you, it\u2019s on you. You\u2019re missing out.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe says he doesn\u2019t like the stigma that athletes are dumb jocks, and yet, he sounds like a dumb jock. What I don\u2019t understand is why he felt the need to cut down Alabama. And as someone who has always taken his academic situation very seriously, I\u2019ll just come at him with this \u2014 if he\u2019d like to take an IQ test, I\u2019m available. If he\u2019d like to take the\u00a0Wonderlic test, I\u2019m available. As a proud graduate with multiple degrees from Alabama, I will put my degree up against his any day of the week.\u201d<\/p>\n

The NFL is shedding the Wonderlic from its pre-Draft protocols this year. For years people have wondered if the intellectual aptitude test has any relevance as to how players will ultimately perform on the football field. <\/p>\n

Nonetheless, it would be fascinating to see McElroy and Thibodeaux partake in this challenge.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
