The 2021 AO faced a range of challenges, including a historically low number of on-site spectators and lockdown restrictions. <\/p>\n<p>Despite the timely introduction of the partnership given the pandemic, Plummer says that the AO plans to continue to collaborate with Decentraland in the future. \u201cWe\u2019re in it for the long term,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe Metaverse is not going anywhere, and as a company, we\u2019re invested in continuing to grow our online presence and push the boundaries of innovation.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-01\/3af6ea64-a8e9-4a65-a6c6-127601020e8c.png\"><\/figure>\n<p>He also added that Tennis Australia is exploring the possibility of a year-round property in the Metaverse. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe definitely think of ourselves more as an entertainment event rather than just a tennis event. Whether we&#8217;re providing entertainment via the metaverse twelve months of the year or only a few months of the year, that&#8217;s definitely a decision to be made in our roadmap going forward.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Australian_Open_lands_a_sweet_NFT_partnership\"><\/span>Australian Open lands a sweet NFT partnership <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Meanwhile, on Jan. 17, the AO also announced it would be teaming up with NFT platform Sweet to release six NFT collections commemorating the last five decades of the AO. <\/p>\n<p>The collections will be released intermittently between Jan. 17 and 27 to coincide with the tournament. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-01\/6c5b829a-0b99-4fd0-aa39-8b8a7009a9d5.png\"><\/figure>\n<p>Tom Mizzone, CEO of Sweet said that the NFT release demonstrates a \u201ctruly new level of access\u201d for fans to get a glimpse into the world of their idols. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe love this idea of turning IP into digital memorabilia and tying that memorabilia back to an experience,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe idea that the AO designed an umpire chair that had never been seen before and now tennis fans can own and display that umpire chair as an NFT is just amazing.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Separately, the AO launched a collection of 6,776 algorithmically created \u201cArt Ball\u201d NFTs on Opensea on Jan 12. <\/p>\n<p>According to Plummer, the collection sold out in three minutes following the public drop with a price floor of 0.26 ETH (around $875) and a trading volume of 223 ETH ($751,287).  <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Each Art Ball is allocated a unique plot on the court.
