spending an average of four hours a day staring at their screens.<\/p>\n<p>That is up a third since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>As well as \u201ctech neck\u201d and repetitive strain injury, research suggests digital overload can increase anxiety, damage eyesight and make us more susceptible to cyber-crime.<\/p>\n<p>But there are ways to reduce your dependency.<\/p>\n<p>Kate Jackson shares some simple advice to help you hang up on your handset for a while . . .<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Make_it_less_attractive\"><\/span>Make it less attractive<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>By switching the display mode to \u201cgreyscale\u201d, you effectively switch from color to an old-fashioned black-and-white one.<\/p>\n<p>The drab icons will be less enticing and notifications that are usually red will lose their urgency.<\/p>\n<p>On iPhones, go to \u201cAccessibility Settings\/Display\u201d and \u201cText Size\/Colour Filters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A study at the University of North Dakota in the US found students spent 40 minutes less on their phones after making the change.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image
