{"id":395402,"date":"2022-01-13T20:01:40","date_gmt":"2022-01-13T17:01:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/washington-post-editor-reprimanded-over-roethlisberger-tweet\/"},"modified":"2022-01-13T20:01:40","modified_gmt":"2022-01-13T17:01:40","slug":"washington-post-editor-reprimanded-over-roethlisberger-tweet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/washington-post-editor-reprimanded-over-roethlisberger-tweet\/","title":{"rendered":"#Washington Post editor reprimanded over Roethlisberger tweet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Washington Post editor reprimanded over Roethlisberger tweet<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The Washington Post has reprimanded one of its top editors over a tweet in which she criticized a column that had slammed Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.<\/p>\n<p>Lori Montgomery, the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>paper\u2019s business editor, got into hot water after she posted a now-deleted tweet in response to an SF Gate column that referenced Roethlisberger\u2019s alleged rapes and bad behavior, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/washington-post-reprimands-business-editor-over-tweet-criticizing-column-about-nfl-star-ben-roethlisberger-11642014421?mod=business_featst_pos2\">the Wall Street Journal reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only interesting thing about this column is how easily disproven and completely FoS it is,\u201d Montgomery, who hails from the Pittsburgh area, wrote of the sports column that was published last week.  <\/p>\n<p>In the column titled <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/sports-columns\/article\/a-proper-send-off-for-steelers-ben-roethlisberger-16748606.php\">\u201cThank you, Ben Roethlisberger\u2026for being a real jackass<\/a>,\u201d SF Gate writer Drew Magary had written that Roethlisberger \u201csucks\u201d and that he wishes \u201che\u2019d never been born.\u201d He then listed rape allegations leveled by at least two different women against Roethlisberger as well as other accusations of \u201cbelligerent\u201d behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Roethlisberger has denied any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>The longtime quarterback for the Steelers is likely to retire at the end of this season. Magary\u2019s column was written hours after what was widely believed to be the two-time Super Bowl winner\u2019s final home <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> at Heinz Field.<\/p>\n<p>A Post spokesperson told the Journal that Montgomery was given a verbal warning last weekend. The newspaper is also planning to revise its <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> policy once a standards editor position is filled.<\/p>\n<p>Montgomery\u2019s tweet, which linked to an article by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, was panned by Twitter users and employees at her own newspaper. She then deleted it and said she regretted posting a message that made it <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear she was doubting Roethlisberger\u2019s alleged victims.<\/p>\n<p>That did little to quell the anger, particularly from fellow Post journalist Felicia Sonmez, who tweeted: \u201cRespectfully, @lorimontgomery, this @drewmagary column contains facts about sexual assault allegations against Ben Roethlisberger that the Washington Post\u2019s own story backs up.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/Ben-Roethlisberge_77-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Ben Roethlisberger\" class=\"wp-image-20821459\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/Ben-Roethlisberge_77-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/Ben-Roethlisberge_77-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/Ben-Roethlisberge_77-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Roethlisberger, the two-time Super Bowl winner who is likely to retire at the end of the season, has denied allegations that he raped two women.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a subsequent tweet, Sonmez, who covers national politics for the Post, noted that Montgomery was named as a defendant in a discrimination lawsuit that she filed against the newspaper in July.  <\/p>\n<p>Sonmez, who once accused a Los Angeles Times journalist of assaulting her in China, says she filed the suit after alleging that her employer twice barred her from covering stories about sexual assault.<\/p>\n<p>She alleges she was barred by the newspaper from writing about allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings. <\/p>\n<p>Sonmez was also placed on leave after tweeting about rape allegations against Kobe Bryant just hours after the basketball star died in a helicopter crash.<\/p>\n<p>The Post asked a court to dismiss the lawsuit, saying that Sonmez\u2019s claims were \u201cnothing more\u201d than a campaign against its \u201cjournalistic and editorial policies.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
