It currently has more than 1.6 million users, up from 180,000 in October 2020. People<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/antiwork\/comments\/q82vqk\/quit_my_job_last_night_it_was_nice_to_be_home_to\/\"> post epic text and e-mail screenshots <\/a>of quitting their jobs, but the real heroes are so-called \u201cidlers\u201d \u2014 those who stay in jobs doing the absolute minimum to get by while still collecting a paycheck.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has hit their limit with COVID, overwork, their mortgages, rent payments and so many things with capitalism. There\u2019s nothing wrong with wanting to take a break from that and do less of it,\u201d said Doreen Ford, the page\u2019s moderator. A 30-year-old living in Boston, Ford once held a job in retail, but for the past five years, she\u2019s been self-employed as a dog walker, working about 25 hours a week.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"682\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/antiwork-3.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=682\" alt=\"Antiwork moderator Doreen Ford says that movement is a major snub towards capitalism.\" class=\"wp-image-20863514\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/antiwork-3.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1023 1023w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/antiwork-3.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=682 682w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/antiwork-3.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=341 341w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/antiwork-3.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px\"\/><figcaption>Antiwork moderator Doreen Ford says that movement is a major snub towards capitalism.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">courtesy of Doreen Ford<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She noted that the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> idea behind the anti-work movement \u201cis to reduce the coercive element of labor as much as possible by subverting capitalism,\u201d and said that those active on the page are mainly far leftists who support Bernie Sanders and AOC, and, often also identify as socialists, communists and\/or anarchists. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Among them are <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/antiwork\/comments\/s294dh\/ive_been_getting_paid_80k_a_year_for_the_last_5\/\">users like podcastquestions,<\/a> who boasted that they make $80,000 a year by answering one to two calls a week \u201cand literally nothing else.\u201d Another user, an anonymous IT professional, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/antiwork\/comments\/s2igq9\/i_automated_my_job_over_a_year_ago_and_havent\/\">bragged about taking things a step further<\/a>, automating their gig at a law firm with \u201ca simple <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> that performed [their] entire job\u201d for over a year. Company brass didn\u2019t catch on, and the employee was still paid $90,000 a year. <\/p>\n<p>Some fear anti-workers could have far-reaching consequences for the economy. The<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/1270ee18-3ee0-4939-98a8-c4f40940e644\"> Financial Times recently reported that Goldman Sachs<\/a> was fretting that the movement posed a \u201clong-run risk\u201d to labor force participation.<\/p>\n<p>It comes at a time where a record number of workers are quitting, a phenomenon that\u2019s been dubbed the Great Resignation. In November, 4.5 million Americans voluntarily left their jobs, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/jolts.nr0.htm\">the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But those numbers tell only part of the story, said Rutgers professor Todd Vachon, director of the school\u2019s Labor Education Action Research Network.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\">\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEveryone has hit their limit with COVID, overwork, their mortgages, rent payments and so many things with capitalism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><cite>Doreen Ford, moderator of the \u201cantiwork\u201d subreddit<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not only seeing the mass resignation, but at the same time a wave of strike activity and new organizing activity among workers that have remained in their jobs,\u201d Vachon told The Post. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe two are interconnected. A shortage of workers willing to take low-wage jobs empowers those in those jobs to take bold actions to improve them with less fear of being fired or replaced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The anti-work subreddit shows people doing just that. One user, a technician of some sort who goes by the name willcalliv, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/antiwork\/comments\/rwzkom\/i_have_finally_put_my_foot_down\/\">posted screenshots of a demanding email<\/a> sent to their boss. They noted that their \u201cskills are high in demand this year\u201d and asked for a 6.8 percent raise, a work week of no more than 45 hours, a company phone and a new car with a working air conditioner \u2014 all in the name of \u201cpersonal growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s unclear if the asks were granted, willcalliv\u2019s post received more than 80,000 upvotes of support from Redditors. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Another user who goes by the screen name introductionhonest10 and works in management recently wrote of their demands on their employer. They proposed a 10 percent pay increase, five extra days off a year, and having Monday\u00a0be an optional workday for those who are ahead on their tasks. The proposal was accepted a few months back and the results have been good: employee satisfaction is up, and there\u2019s been no decline in revenue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll I can say is wowwww,\u201d introductionhonest10 said in a post. <\/p>\n<p>Ford, who is currently pursuing a master\u2019s in philosophy at Boston College, while also running the anti-work subreddit and hosting a podcast, says such success stories show the movement is about more than self-absorbed Gen Zers who can\u2019t be bothered to get out of bed \u2014 sort of. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we call laziness is actually people reaching their limits for very good reasons that are outside of their control,\u201d she said. \u201cWell, some of us are lazy and we just don\u2019t want to work.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
