\n A cat taken in by Sri Lankan law enforcement on Saturday for smuggling illegal contraband into a high-security prison has now reportedly escaped.<\/p>\n

The felonious feline was nabbed on Welikada Prison grounds with 1.7 grams of heroin, two SIM cards and a memory chip, rolled into a small plastic bag and tucked into its collar, according to local news<\/a> sources.<\/p>\n

Officers had hoped the cat would somehow lead them back to the drug den from whence it came. Unfortunately, the adept animal made a break while the holding cell door was open, as guards were attempting to feed it. Local authorities will not seek further investigation of the criminal cat.<\/p>\n

The scheme isn\u2019t the first animal-related smuggling incident. Sri Lanka\u2019s Department of Prisons recently uncovered a caper conducted by criminal ringleader Angoda Lokka, who died while in hiding in July. During a raid of Lokka\u2019s farm hideaway, police discovered an air rifle, bullets and a caged eagle, which was believed to have been used to smuggle drugs on the boss\u2019s behalf in a suburb of Colombo, on the western coast of the island country in the Indian Ocean.<\/p>\n

A group of suspected accomplices \u2014 a man and two women \u2014 were arrested on charges of illegally cremating Lokka\u2019s body and forging identity documents for the wanted criminal, according to New Indian Express.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
