Teaming up with OEMs<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>#BP says its EV chargers will be more profitable than pumps \u2014 here\u2019s how<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n                            <span>Oil giants like BP and Shell have been reluctant to welcome the transition to electric cars, for fear of losing money and market share. All in on fast chargers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Let\u2019s admit it: offering fast charging is a great selling point and BP has got it right. Why wait for hours to charge your car, when you could fill in enough juice within 20 to 30 minutes? People value their time and it\u2019s only natural that there\u2019s rising demand for wider access to fast chargers.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Location_is_key\"><\/span>2. Location is key<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span>Convenience and reducing range anxiety play a key role when it comes to deciding charging on the go.\u00a0In fact, according the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fuelsinstitute.org\/Research\/Reports\/EV-Consumer-Behavior\/EV-Consumer-Behavior-Report.pdf\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/www.fuelsinstitute.org\/Research\/Reports\/EV-Consumer-Behavior\/EV-Consumer-Behavior-Report.pdf\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\">Fuel Institute\u2019s latest research<\/a>, EV consumers prefer convenience over cost. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For example, EV charging users would be willing to pay double to access a charger close to officer buildings or highways. They also wouldn\u2019t mind paying more for a convenient commercial charging station than to charge overnight at home with lower rates.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Time_is_money\"><\/span>3. Time is money<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Even when fast charging, EV owners would still need to spend some 30 minutes at the stations. That\u2019s enough time to generate indirect revenue from attached convenience stores. Be it a coffee, a snack, or some other type of consumer product, people are much more likely to buy something while waiting.<\/p>\n<p>And beyond that, there\u2019s an opportunity for an entirely new business model. BP could take it one step further and develop charging hubs, where consumers could shop at branches of big retailers and supermarkets. That wouldn\u2019t just attract more customers, but also generate commission-based profit.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Teaming_up_with_OEMs\"><\/span>4. Teaming up with OEMs<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>BP could collaborate with automakers for the integration of its charging stations into their navigation systems or mobile apps.
