The medication requires three pills at a time, twice a day, for five days. It is the first oral COVID-19 treatment that can be taken at home to be approved in Canada but Tam admitted <strong>there may be some logistical challenges<\/strong> getting the drug to the right people quickly enough.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Unserious:<\/strong> Chinese health authorities have claimed that Omicron was introduced to a resident of Beijing through a piece of mail from Canada, which experts say is ludicrous, CP <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/17\/chinas-claim-that-omicron-came-from-canadian-mail-dismissed-as-ludicrous.html\">reports<\/a>. A Chinese news outlet first reported that the Jan. 7 infection of a Beijing resident was the result of mail from Canada. <strong>Margaret McCuaig-Johnston<\/strong>, a China expert at the University of Ottawa,\u00a0 said that\u2019s an absurd suggestion: \u201cUnlike the early days, <strong>scientists have clarified that it does not stay on surfaces<\/strong>. To suggest that it would be on mail that came over days from Canada is ludicrous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-block-container\"><strong>Testing goes on:<\/strong> The global Omicron wave is too severe to drop mandatory COVID-19 tests for air <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>lers arriving in Canada, <strong>Jean-Yves Duclos<\/strong> said Monday, the <em>Star<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/politics\/federal\/2022\/01\/17\/flying-across-the-border-canada-still-wants-a-covid-19-test.html?utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_medium=SocialMedia&amp;utm_campaign=Federalpolitics&amp;utm_content=travelcovidtest\">reports<\/a>. Earlier Monday, Pearson airport, Air Canada and WestJet published an\u00a0open letter\u00a0to Duclos, asking him to drop the testing requirement and shift testing resources to other settings, like schools. Duclos said no: \u201cAt the moment, it\u2019s not going to happen. We are probably, in Canada, not even at the peak of infections.\u201d\u00a0Some <strong>experts argue the testing requirement makes less sense<\/strong> now that Omicron is so prevalent that provincial testing regimes can\u2019t keep up with infections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bad call:<\/strong> The Alberta NDP is calling for Justice Minister <strong>Kaycee Madu<\/strong> to resign after learning he <strong>called Edmonton\u2019s police chief<\/strong> after receiving a distracted driving ticket, the <em>Calgary Herald<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/calgaryherald.com\/news\/politics\/ndp-calls-for-justice-minister-kaycee-madu-to-resign-after-reports-he-called-edmonton-police-chief-over-distracted-driving-ticket\/wcm\/ce26331b-0882-40ad-a0ab-1c7f8674d4bb\">reports<\/a>. CBC News <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/calgary\/madu-alberta-justice-minister-ticket-police-edmonton-1.6315184\">reported<\/a> Monday that Madu was pulled over on March 10, 2021 and fined $300 for being on his cellphone in a school zone. He later called Edmonton police Chief <strong>Dale McFee<\/strong> to discuss the ticket.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bad poll:<\/strong> Speaking of political headaches for <strong>Jason Kenney<\/strong>, a new\u00a0Angus Reid poll says only 19 per cent of Albertans think he has done a good job handling COVID and 48 per cent think he has done a \u201cvery bad job,\u201d the <em>Herald<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/calgaryherald.com\/news\/politics\/kenneys-approval-rating-sits-at-26-per-cent-fares-worst-in-country-for-covid-19-handling\/wcm\/32bc303a-7441-4e41-a231-3bc6fa2bbab9\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No foul:<\/strong> The federal ethics commissioner says <strong>Dominic Barton<\/strong>, Canada\u2019s former ambassador to Beijing, did not violate ethics rules when he accepted an offer to chair Rio Tinto, the <em>Globe<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-canadas-former-ambassador-to-china-dominic-barton-cleared-of-possible\/\">reports<\/a>.\u00a0Two NDP MPs asked for a probe, suggesting Barton was in breach of the Conflict of Interest Act because he\u00a0met with executives of Rio Tinto shortly before the end of his time as a diplomat. But <strong>Mario Dion<\/strong> found there was no violation because Barton \u201cdid not have direct and significant dealings with Rio Tinto while he was Canada\u2019s ambassador in China,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Troops in Ukraine:<\/strong> Canadian <strong>special forces have been deployed<\/strong> to Ukraine amid rising tensions between the NATO military alliance and Russia, Global News <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/8517110\/canada-special-forces-ukraine-russia\/\">reports<\/a>. Sources told Global that the deployment is part of an attempt by NATO to deter Russian aggression in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Distracted driving?<\/strong> <strong>Doug Ford<\/strong> was <strong>mocked and praised<\/strong> for acting as \u201ctaxi\u201d and \u201csnow plow\u201d during a massive snow storm in Toronto on Monday, Yahoo <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/ontario-snow-storm-doug-ford-185342988.html\">reports<\/a>. There was <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/climate-and-environment\/these-images-show-scale-of-snowstorm-in-toronto-and-parts-of-ontario-1.5742781\">so much snow<\/a> in the city, that the school board <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tdsb\/status\/1483260972609454081\">cancelled school<\/a> for two days straight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Good news:\u00a0John Horgan<\/strong> has completed cancer treatment, the <em>Vancouver Sun<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/vancouversun.com\/news\/local-news\/bc-premier-john-horgan-completes-cancer-radiation\">reports<\/a>. \u201cThey had the <strong>phasers on stun<\/strong> and my treatment is complete,\u201d Horgan said in a handwritten note he posted to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> on Monday.\u00a0In October, Horgan announced that he had discovered a lump on his neck and that doctors recommended a biopsy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Election promise:<\/strong> In the heat of the election campaign this fall, the Liberals promised to \u201ctable legislation to ensure that every business and organization that decides to require a proof of vaccination from employees and customers can do so without fear of legal challenge,\u201d <strong>Campbell Clark<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-trudeaus-vaccine-promise-that-wasnt-made-to-be-kept\/\">reminds us<\/a> in the <em>Globe<\/em>.
