Andr\u00e9 Leon Talley, the fashion icon who served as Vogue<\/em>\u2018s creative director and a judge on America\u2019s Next Top Model<\/em>, has died. He was 73.<\/p>\n

The news<\/a> was first reported by TMZ<\/em><\/a> and later confirmed by the official Met Gala Twitter<\/a> account, which wrote, \u201cFashion lost another giant today. Andr\u00e9 Leon Talley, thank you for your groundbreaking work that has inspired so many of us. Your legacy will live on forever. RIP.\u201d<\/p>\n

Talley was born on October 16, 1948, in Washington, D.C, and his love for fashion started at an early age when he found a copy of Vogue magazine in his local library. After graduating from Brown with a Master\u2019s in French Literature, Talley app<\/a>renticed for then Vogue editor Diana Vreeland at the Metropolitan Museum of Art before moving on to Andy Warhol\u2019s Factory<\/em> and Interview<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n

He went on to become the Paris bureau chief at Women\u2019s Wear Daily<\/em> from 1975 to 1980. Talley also worked for W<\/em>, The New York Times<\/em>, and other publications before landing at Vogue<\/em>, first working as the Fashion News Director and then as the magazine\u2019s first African American male Creative Director. He briefly left Vogue<\/em> in 1995 to move to Paris and work for W<\/em> but returned to the famous publication in 1998 as the editor-at-large.<\/p>\n

From March 2010 to December 2011, Talley served on the judging panel for the reality competition series<\/a> America\u2019s Next Top Model<\/em>. He also appeared as himself in the 2008 Sex and the City<\/em> film and in a 2015 episode of the Fox musical drama Empire<\/em>. Talley also featured in the documentaries Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards<\/em> and The Gospel According to Andr\u00e9<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Tributes began to pour in following the news of Talley\u2019s death. Scandal<\/em> actress Kerry Washington took to Instagram to share her condolences, writing, \u201cOh Andre! Heaven is not ready for you darling!!!!!! The whole afterlife is going to be just too fabulous now. Ugh! You blessed us! Sir! You blessed us with your charm and wit and your taste for the exceptional.\u201d<\/p>\n
