{"id":396600,"date":"2022-01-19T21:36:35","date_gmt":"2022-01-19T18:36:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/eu-regulator-wants-ban-on-energy-intensive-bitcoin-mining\/"},"modified":"2022-01-19T21:36:35","modified_gmt":"2022-01-19T18:36:35","slug":"eu-regulator-wants-ban-on-energy-intensive-bitcoin-mining","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/eu-regulator-wants-ban-on-energy-intensive-bitcoin-mining\/","title":{"rendered":"#EU regulator wants ban on energy-intensive bitcoin mining"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#EU regulator wants ban on energy-intensive bitcoin mining<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The European Union should ban a form of bitcoin mining that uses up an excessive amount of energy because it poses a threat to the continent\u2019s climate goals, according to one of the bloc\u2019s top financial regulators.<\/p>\n<p>Erik Thed\u00e9en, the vice chairman of the European Securities and Markets Authority, said that the main form of bitcoin mining was doing harm to the environment and was setting back efforts to combat climate change.<\/p>\n<p>He <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/8a29b412-348d-4f73-8af4-1f38e69f28cf?campaign_id=4&amp;emc=edit_dk_20220119&amp;instance_id=50679&amp;nl=dealbook&amp;regi_id=76211278&amp;segment_id=80088&amp;te=1&amp;user_id=7965f8a3bc75ea080d96e1dfea67c214\">told the Financial Times<\/a> that the EU should weigh a ban on so-called \u201cproof of work\u201d mining in favor of the more energy-efficient \u201cproof of stake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mining of cryptocurrencies including bitcoin serves two functions \u2014 introducing new digital coins into circulation and safeguarding transactions that ensure their validity.<\/p>\n<p>Crypto miners use sophisticated computers to solve complex mathematical problems.
