\n New York has hit record lows for coronavirus-related hospitalizations, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday.<\/p>\n

The state saw 536 people hospitalized with the bug on Sunday \u2014 a new low since Mar. 17 when the pandemic was still growing, Cuomo said during a press briefing in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is great news<\/a>,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n

The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units dropped to 136 and the amount of people intubated was at 62 \u2014 both new lows since the height of the health crisis, Cuomo said.<\/p>\n

The state recorded three deaths on Sunday, and there were no confirmed deaths in New York City for the second straight day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is really all great, great news and I congratulate New Yorkers because this is purely a result of the actions they\u2019ve been taking,\u201d said Cuomo, adding \u201cthe progress is even better than we expected.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuomo pointed out that experts had previously predicted that the virus infection rate would spike as the \u201cactivity rate\u201d in a state increases.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what you\u2019ve seen all across the country \u2013 that\u2019s what you\u2019ve seen in other countries, and that\u2019s what we expected here,\u201d said Cuomo.<\/p>\n

But after two and a half months of reopening the Empire State, \u201cthe numbers have actually gone down, which nobody suggested,\u201d Cuomo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is really to compliment New Yorkers,\u201d said the governor.<\/p>\n

The state conducted 51,839 coronavirus tests on Sunday and of those, 545 or 1.05 percent of them were positive, the data shows.<\/p>\n

A total of 25,172 New Yorkers have died as a result of the contagion, according to state data.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
