{"id":398511,"date":"2022-01-24T19:01:44","date_gmt":"2022-01-24T16:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/disney-heiress-blasts-company-over-pay-inequality-documentary\/"},"modified":"2022-01-24T19:01:44","modified_gmt":"2022-01-24T16:01:44","slug":"disney-heiress-blasts-company-over-pay-inequality-documentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/disney-heiress-blasts-company-over-pay-inequality-documentary\/","title":{"rendered":"#Disney heiress blasts company over pay inequality: documentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Disney heiress blasts company over pay inequality: documentary<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Disney has become a lightning rod for inequality in a new documentary directed by Abigail Disney, the granddaughter of one the Mouse House\u2019s founders.<\/p>\n<p>The film co-directed with Kathleen Hughes, \u201cThe American Dream and Other Fairy Tales,\u201d profiles four Disneyland custodians, who earn $15 an hour, as they struggle to make ends meet, juggling high rental fees in Southern California with food and health care costs. <\/p>\n<p>The film juxtaposes that meager lifestyle with that of former chief executive Bob Iger, who got a pre-pandemic pay package of $65.6 million in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The film \u2014 which is co-produced by Disney\u2019s sister Susan Disney Lord, brother Tim, and which premieres at the Sundance Film Festival Monday \u2014 flashes back to Abigail Disney and her sister, who are then shown reminiscing about their grandfather, Roy O. Disney, who founded the company in 1923 with his brother, Walt. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot see him taking $66 million home for a year\u2019s work in the same year when, at the same company, people can\u2019t afford food,\u201d Disney angrily says. According to the New York Times, Disney tells viewers that she decided to make the film because she was frustrated and angry at Iger\u2019s \u201ccurt\u201d response to an email she sent him in 2018 about theme park employee pay. He declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>There have also been some changes that push against the documentary\u2019s narrative. In December, unions representing 9,500 Disneyland workers <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/socal\/daily-pilot\/entertainment\/story\/2021-12-08\/holdout-unions-approve-contract-disneyland-narrowly-averts-strike#:~:text=All%20member%20unions%20ratified%20the,Adventure%20during%20the%20initial%20Nov.&amp;text=%E2%80%9CThe%20Disneyland%20Resort%20is%20pleased,%2C%E2%80%9D%20said%20a%20Disneyland%20spokesperson.\">ratified a new contract<\/a> that bumped minimum starting pay to $18 an hour by 2023 \u2014 up from $15.45 last year, a 16% increase \u2014 and includes seniority-based bonuses.<\/p>\n<p>But the high-flying pay is still alive and well at the company. Disney, stepped down from the board in 2003 and led a shareholder revolt that resulted in Iger\u2019s ascension.\u00a0Roy E.
