{"id":398737,"date":"2022-01-25T02:05:42","date_gmt":"2022-01-24T23:05:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/boeing-invests-450-million-in-air-taxi-startup\/"},"modified":"2022-01-25T02:05:42","modified_gmt":"2022-01-24T23:05:42","slug":"boeing-invests-450-million-in-air-taxi-startup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/boeing-invests-450-million-in-air-taxi-startup\/","title":{"rendered":"#Boeing invests $450 million in air taxi startup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Boeing invests $450 million in air taxi startup<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Boeing is doubling down on its investment in the autonomous air taxi company Wisk Aero.<\/p>\n<p>The plane maker is committing another $450 million to the Silicon Valley startup that is developing its <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> jointly with Kittyhawk, the self-flying aviation company backed by Google co-founder Larry Page.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this investment, we are reconfirming our belief in Wisk\u2019s business and the importance of their work in pioneering all-electric, AI-driven, autonomous capability for the aerospace industry,\u201d said Boeing Chief Strategy Officer Marc Allen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAutonomy is the key to unlocking scale across all advanced air mobility <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lications, from passenger to cargo and beyond. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why straight-to-autonomy is a core first principle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Competition in the air taxi space is stiff, as rivals such as Joby Aviation and German firm Lilium have already tested prototypes.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010, funding for air taxis has reached $12.7 billion. Last year alone, funding more than doubled to $7 billion, according to an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/featured-insights\/the-next-normal\/air-taxis\">analysis by McKinsey<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Within the next decade, there could be some 20,000 daily flights of air taxis, according to McKinsey.<\/p>\n<p>Wisk says the funding will enable it to add to its current workforce of 350 employees. (Photo by Olivier DOULIERY \/ AFP) (Photo by OLIVIER DOULIERY\/AFP via Getty Images)\" class=\"wp-image-20950818\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/boeing_56.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/boeing_56.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/boeing_56.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Boeing is doubling down on the air taxi industry, which is expected to begin offering commercial flights sometime this decade.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The company says that the infusion of cash will also boost production of its sixth-generation eVTOLs \u2014 or an electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle. <\/p>\n<p>Wisk says that the latest iteration is a \u201ccompetitive differentiator\u201d from its rivals in that it is \u201cenabled by the company\u2019s autonomous technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The funding round is good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> for Wisk, particularly in light of a lengthy legal battle it has been waging with a competitor over the last year.<\/p>\n<p>Archer Aviation sued Wisk for $1 billion after Wisk initially accused the United Airlines-backed startup of stealing trade secrets involving its eVTOL.<\/p>\n<p>Archer\u2019s countersuit was filed last summer in response to Wisk\u2019s \u201cfalse and malicious extra-judicial smear campaign that has caused substantial damage to Archer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Archer plans to commercially launch its first electric flying taxi \u201cMaker\u201d in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Wisk first sued Archer last spring for allegedly ripping off its electric-powered airplane design after it\u00a0hired away several of the company\u2019s engineers\u00a0in December 2019 and January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>But Archer\u00a0\u2014 whose investors include United Airlines and the auto giant that controls Fiat-Chrysler and Ferrari, as well as Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez \u2014\u00a0argued that Wisk in fact stole the designs\u00a0at the center of the case.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
