\n A Trump administration official who once called the US a \u201chomo-empire\u201d erupted in an anti-gay tweet spree on Monday, resulting in her termination.<\/p>\n

Merritt Corrigan, deputy White House liaison at the US Agency for International Development, was let go mid-afternoon as a result of the social media rant.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor too long, I\u2019ve remained silent as the media has attacked me for my Christian beliefs, which are shared by the majority of Americans,\u201d Corrigan tweeted. \u201cLet me clear: Gay marriage isn\u2019t marriage Men aren\u2019t women US-funded Tunisian LGBT soap operas aren\u2019t America First.\u201d<\/p>\n

Homosexuality is illegal in Tunisia and it\u2019s unclear if such a TV program exists. A court in the Muslim country in June sentenced two men to two years in prison for homosexuality.<\/p>\n

Corrigan\u2019s Twitter tear continued: \u201cThe United States is losing ground in the battle to garner influence through humanitarian aid because we now refuse to help countries who don\u2019t celebrate sexual deviancy. Meanwhile, Russia and China are happ<\/a>y to step in and eat our lunch.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear if she was referring to a specific action to withdraw funds. Then-ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, who is gay, last year launched an administration campaign to decriminalize homosexuality in other countries. Under former President Barack Obama the US withdrew funds from Uganda over an anti-gay law.<\/p>\n

\u201cI watched with horror this week as USAID distributed taxpayer funded documents claiming \u2018we cannot tell someone\u2019s sex or gender by looking at them\u2019 and that not calling oneself \u2018cis-gendered\u2019 is a microagression I\u2019m not cis-anything. I\u2019m a woman,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Before taking office, Corrigan\u2019s tweets featured protestations of gay rights, including a complaint that \u201cour homo-empire couldn\u2019t tolerate even one commercial enterprise not in full submission to the tyrannical LGBT agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n

Acting USAID administrator John Barsa defended Corrigan and two other officials last month from what he called \u201cunwarranted and malicious attacks\u201d after her previous anti-gay remarks surfaced.<\/p>\n

Acting USAID spokesperson Pooja Jhunjhunwala said in a statement Monday afternoon, following her latest tweets: \u201cEffective 3:00 P.M. on August 3, 2020, Ms. Merritt Corrigan is no longer an employee at the U.S. Agency for International Development. USAID takes any claim of discrimination seriously, and we will investigate any complaints of anti-Christian bias Ms.\u00a0Corrigan\u00a0has raised during her tenure at the Agency.\u201d<\/p>\n

Corrigan said she would share more information about her grievances at a press conference on Thursday with fringe-conservative activists Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman.<\/p>\n

President Trump rarely mentions gay rights, but posed with a rainbow flag as a candidate in 2016 and nominated gay judges as president. This year, Trump hailed Grenell, then acting intelligence chief, as the \u201cfirst openly gay cabinet secretary\u201d and told fellow officials at a meeting \u201cit\u2019s a big deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

White House adviser Kellyanne Conway said last year that Trump was \u201cthe first president to start as president approving of gay marriage\u201d and last year Trump celebrated LGBT pride month with a tweet that condemned\u00a0\u201cdozens of countries worldwide that punish, imprison, or even execute individuals on the basis of their sexual orientation.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
