{"id":398905,"date":"2022-01-24T21:44:18","date_gmt":"2022-01-24T18:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/publishers-ask-eu-to-stop-google-from-removing-cookies\/"},"modified":"2022-01-24T21:44:18","modified_gmt":"2022-01-24T18:44:18","slug":"publishers-ask-eu-to-stop-google-from-removing-cookies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/publishers-ask-eu-to-stop-google-from-removing-cookies\/","title":{"rendered":"#Publishers ask EU to stop Google from removing cookies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Publishers ask EU to stop Google from removing cookies<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>German <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> companies want the European Union to prevent Google from removing third-party cookies from its Chrome browser, claiming the move will eat into critical ad revenues for <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Axel Springer and hundreds of other publishers, advertisers, and content providers claim that Google parent Alphabet is breaking European antitrust laws with its plan to gradually phase out cookies from its signature web browser.<\/p>\n<p>If Google were to follow through on the plan, it could result in revenue losses of up to 70% for media entities that rely on the search engine\u2019s cookies to generate clicks through analyzing user preferences.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint was filed with EU antitrust regulators in Brussels on Monday, according to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/eccf5514-8b83-4d85-8305-f882adf5dac3?campaign_id=4&amp;emc=edit_dk_20220124&amp;instance_id=51127&amp;nl=dealbook&amp;regi_id=55025835&amp;segment_id=80571&amp;te=1&amp;user_id=430bd0284633c164b7ad14dd581d1620\">Financial Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Google claims the move is being done to safeguard users\u2019 privacy, the publishers claimed that Google will still be able to use alternative methods to collect data that will benefit its own advertising service while leaving competitors in the lurch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPublishers must remain in a position where they are allowed to ask their users for consent to process data, without Google capturing this decision,\u201d according to the complaint. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/google-axel_17.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"FILES - Picture taken on January 11, 2006 shows an partial view of German newspaper publisher Axel Springer's headquarters in Berlin. The plan was to do away with the cookies by this year, but it has been challenged by regulators, prompting delays in the roll-out.<\/p>\n<p>Google dominates the digital advertising market worldwide, taking in 27.5 percent of all global ad spending,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emarketer.com\/content\/duopoly-still-rules-global-digital-ad-market-alibaba-amazon-on-prowl\">according to market research firm eMarketer<\/a>. Its share of the US ad market last year was 28.9 percent, according to the firm.<\/p>\n<p>The search giant\u2019s share of online advertising, however, is much greater.
