Under attack:<\/strong> Global Affairs\u00a0Canada is coping with a multi-day network disruption that security and government sources describe as a \u201ccyber attack,\u201d likely from Russia, Global reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cGAC has been the target of a cyber attack but it is not clear if the Russians, the alleged perpetrators, hacked into the system or were able to merely disrupt its service,\u201d a national security source, who spoke on the condition they not be named, told Global News. The Liberal government has been vocal in its support for Ukraine as Russia masses troops on the former Soviet state\u2019s borders, with Ottawa announcing a $120 million loan to the Ukrainian government last week and re-committing Canadian soldiers to train Kyiv\u2019s security forces.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Guns to Kyiv?<\/strong> Speaking of Ukraine, Trudeau\u2019s cabinet is considering sending weapons to that country, Global reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the sources, who spoke on background as they are not authorized to discuss the proposal publicly, the federal cabinet will be asked to decide on the possible shipment of the small weapons along with the potential for increased military capabilities support for Ukraine from the Canadian Forces.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Out of storage?<\/strong> The Citizen<\/em> reports<\/a> that Canada might send arms that were originally destined for Kurdish fighters.<\/p>\n

The $10 million package of small arms and anti-tank systems had been promised to the Kurds in 2016, but after Iraq raised objections the Canadian military put the equipment into storage.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ottawa-bound:<\/strong> A convoy of hundreds of truckers and supporters left Calgary Monday en route for Ottawa to protest a cross-border vaccine mandate, the Star<\/em> reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thousands of truckers and supporters gathered in a group chat were looking for rides and praising \u201cmodern-day blue collar soldiers\u201d<\/strong> standing up against vaccine mandates. A GoFundMe raising money to help the truckers with the cost of fuel, food and lodging along the way had reached more than $3.2 million as of Monday morning. As many as 26,000 of the 160,000 drivers who make regular trip<\/a>s across the Canada-U.S. border would likely be sidelined as a result of the vaccine mandate in both countries, according to the Canadian Trucking Alliance and the American Trucking Associations.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

CPC support:<\/strong> The convoy increasingly seems to have the backing of Conservative MPs, CBC reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre<\/strong>, the party\u2019s finance critic, claimed\u00a0the government\u2019s vaccine policy\u00a0is \u201cemptying grocery shelves and ballooning food prices,\u201d leaving some Canadians to \u201cgo hungry.\u201d Garnett Genuis<\/strong>, a Conservative MP from Alberta, said he stands with unvaccinated truckers who plan on protesting the mandate. \u201cTime to end Justin Trudeau\u2019s<\/strong> nonsensical vaccine vendetta<\/strong>,\u201d he said in a recent social media<\/a> post. The party\u2019s transport critic, MP Melissa Lantsman<\/strong>, urged supporters to sign a petition opposing new vaccine requirements. She claimed\u00a0the policy would result in the loss of thousands of jobs<\/strong> and \u201cempty shelves in Canadian retail sectors.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ambiguous O\u2019Toole:<\/strong> BUT, at a newser on Monday, Erin O\u2019Toole<\/strong>\u00a0dodged questions<\/strong> on his position on the truckers, the Post<\/em> reports:<\/a> \u201cIt\u2019s not for the leader of the opposition or a political party to attend a protest on the hill or a convoy. It\u2019s up to politicians to advocate for solutions in a cost-of-living crisis, in a supply chain crisis in a way that\u2019s responsible and respectful of the public health crisis we\u2019re in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Most jabbed:<\/strong> Trudeau told reporters Monday that the Conservatives are stoking fear, Global reports<\/a>, and pointed out that most truckers are vaccinated: \u201cAlmost 90 per cent of truckers in Canada are vaccinated. I regret that the Conservative Party and Conservative politicians are in the process of stoking Canadians\u2019 fears about the supply chain. The reality is that vaccination is how we\u2019ll get through this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Funds frozen:<\/strong> The convoy\u2019s online fundraising campaign \u2014 which raised $3.5 million in 10 days<\/strong> \u2014 is frozen while GoFundMe considers the situation, Le journal de Montr\u00e9al\u00a0<\/em>reports<\/a>\u00a0(translation<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Not a leader?<\/strong> O\u2019Toole\u2019s ambiguous position on the protest suggest he is not really a leader, Althia Raj<\/strong> writes<\/a> in the Star<\/em>.<\/div>\n

\nO\u2019Toole could have said he understands the truckers\u2019 disapp<\/a>ointment but doesn\u2019t support their methods, of blocking roads and busy borders. He could have said he has no plans to meet with the group but would have liked the Liberals to negotiate with the U.S. a waiver for unvaccinated Canadian drivers. Or he could have said he agrees with his Alberta MP Garnett Genius who tweeted that he stands with the truckers and called on Trudeau to end his \u201cnonsensical vaccine vendetta.\u201d\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Not bothered:<\/strong>\u00a0O\u2019Toole says he doesn\u2019t \u201creally mind<\/strong>\u201d that Saskatchewan Tory MPs from Saskatchewan have confirmed Senator Denise Batters<\/strong> as a member of their provincial Conservative caucus, even though Mr. O\u2019Toole removed her from the national caucus, the Globe<\/em> reports<\/a>.<\/div>\n

Ontario near deal:<\/strong> Sources tell<\/a> the Star<\/em> that Ottawa and Ontario are \u201cvery close\u201d to a deal<\/strong> on $10-a-day child care, after Nunavut unveiled its agreement Monday, which leaves Ontario as the last holdout. \u201cI expect a deal to be finalized shortly,\u201d a Ford confidant told the Star<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Lithium objection:<\/strong> Former Conservative minister Peter MacKay<\/strong> thinks it\u2019s terrible that Canada has agreed to let the Chinese buy a Canadian lithium company without a security review, he writes<\/a> in the Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n
