The iconic supercar brand\u00a0Lamborghini has announced that 2022 will be the last year it\u2019ll release internal combustion engine vehicles that run purely on gas. Then, starting next year, every Lambo will come with electric motors, and the company even confirmed a crazy goal for full-electrification.<\/p>\n

In 2018, Lamborghini had a completely different mindset than what we\u2019re hearing now\u2014claiming that battery and electric packages can\u2019t offer the energy<\/a> and power to create their legendary supercars. However, things have changed a bit since, and in 2021, it revised that statement.\u00a0Now, Lamborghini wants to go all-in on EVs.<\/p>\n

According to CEO Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini will release four vehicles that are purely combustion engines this year. They\u2019ll be the last cars that don\u2019t offer some sort of electrical assistance.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t worry though, as the company isn\u2019t diving in headfirst. Instead, all Lamborghini\u2019s released in 2023 will come with powerful engines and electric motors combined and be hybrids or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). The plug-in hybrid setups will include a V-12 engine, a battery, and an electric motor.<\/p>\n

While this doesn\u2019t come as a surprise given the popularity of electric vehicles, the company still plans on being late to the full electrification party. During the same announcement,\u00a0Winkelmann confirmed Lamborghini\u2019s first all-electric vehicle still won\u2019t arrive until sometime in 2028 and be a 4-door \u201cdaily driver\u201d created in partnership with its parent company\u00a0Volkswagen.<\/p>\n

According to an interview with Autocar UK<\/em><\/a>, Lamborghini didn\u2019t feel like it needed to be first to electrification, only the best once it made the switch. Either way, it still sounds like 2028 is too slow to transition entirely to electric engines, so we\u2019ll have to wait and see if it sticks to that timeline.<\/p>\n

What we do know is that 2022 model Lamborghini\u2019s will be the last proper \u201cICE\u201d Lambo\u2019s, and in 2023 they\u2019ll all come in hybrid variants that hopefully offer insane power, speeds, and performance.<\/p>\n
