Google has a few apps like this, but you probably use them every day. Did you know Google offers slimmed-down versions of many of its apps?<\/p>\n<p>These apps are actually designed for \u201cAndroid Go,\u201d which is a lighter version of the Android operating system for low-powered devices. To go along with this, Google has \u201cGo\u201d versions of Gmail, Maps, Files, and even Search.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>What&#8217;s the Difference Between Android One and Android Go?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Use_%E2%80%9CLite%E2%80%9D_Apps\"><\/span>Why Use \u201cLite\u201d Apps?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The cool thing is you don\u2019t need to have an Android Go device to download the Go apps. Anyone can download them from the Play Store and get a lighter Google experience. But why would you want to intentionally use apps with fewer features than their full-size counterparts?<\/p>\n<p>First and foremost, the Go apps are smaller in size. For example, the full <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.maps\">Google Maps<\/a> app uses about 270MB of storage, whereas <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.mapslite\">Google Maps Go<\/a> uses a measly 17MB. 270MB might not seem like a lot, but 17MB is barely anything. You\u2019ll find the same story across the board.<\/p>\n<p>What if storage space is not a huge concern for you? There are other benefits as well. The slimmed-down nature of Go apps means they have fewer features. That\u2019s easier on your battery and your data plan since they\u2019re not always trying to do so much. In some cases, the Go apps are faster too, which fewer features bogging down the app.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>, Go apps are easier on your phone because that is exactly what they were designed to do. The best of Google\u2019s Go apps might be \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.photosgo\">Gallery Go<\/a>.\u201d This is essentially the Google Photos app without so many internet-connected features. It has tons of stuff baked in and you may not use most of it. For a simpler Search experience, \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.searchlite\">Google Go<\/a>\u201d is perfect. Similar to Google Search, there may be a lot of features you don\u2019t use. \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.mapslite\">Google Maps Go<\/a>\u201d s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>s away a lot of the extra features and focuses on just being a great map. The one big thing you lose is turn-by-turn navigation. (That <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.navlite\">requires a separate app<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-780137\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/gmailgo-e1642196266975.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Gmail Go\" width=\"650\" height=\"385\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Email is important to a lot of people, but it might not be a critical part of your life. \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.gm.lite\">Gmail Go<\/a>\u201d is a much simpler version of the Gmail experience. If you\u2019re not constantly sending and replying to emails from your phone, this is a great alternative.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-780134\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/assistantgo-e1642196292922.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Google Assistant Go\" width=\"650\" height=\"385\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The last app we\u2019ll highlight is \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.assistant\">Google Assistant Go<\/a>.\u201d Like the full Google app,\u00a0the full Google Assistant app is absolutely packed with features. However, you may just use it for a few basic voice commands. The Go version can handle that, but the one thing you might miss is reminders.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few other Go versions of Google apps as well, including \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.youtube.mango&amp;hl=en\">YouTube Go<\/a>.\u201d You can do a search for \u201cAndroid Go\u201d or \u201cAndroid lite\u201d in the Play Store to find more slimmed-down apps from Google and other companies that support Android Go devices.
