There\u2019s a major outage taking place right now, and it\u2019s affecting everyone\u2019s favorite gaming chat service, Discord<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Update, 1\/26\/22 5:13 pm Eastern:<\/strong> Discord is back online.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Update, 1\/26\/22 4:09 pm Eastern:<\/strong> According to Discord\u2019s status page, \u201cMore than half of Discord users are back online and working normally. We continue to work to bring the rest of the users back online.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Update, 1\/26\/22 3:32 pm Eastern:<\/strong> At 3:39 p.m., Discord solved the problem and began slowly letting users back onto the service. The status page says, \u201d The database is healthy again and our internal error rate has fallen to nominal levels. We are beginning to raise the login rate limit to allow users to reconnect.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In the Discord client, the company explained what\u2019s happ<\/a>ening right now in fairly vague terms:<\/p>\n

We have identified the underlying issue with the API outage, but are dealing with a secondary issue on one of our database clusters. We have out entire on-call response team online and responding to the issue.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Discord has over 150 million active users, so this API outage is sure to upset a lot of people. Of course, these things happen, and it appears that Discord is doing everything it can to get the service back online as quickly as possible. The company bringing in its \u201centire on-call response team\u201d is reassuring for Discord users.<\/p>\n

The outage was first reported at around 2:45 p.m. ET, as users said they were unable to\u00a0join calls or participate in text chats\u2014two of the primary reasons people use Discord in the first place. However, some users who were already in calls have reported that they were able to stay in them even with the outage.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have instituted a rate limit on logins to manage the traffic load. Users who are logged in are successfully using Discord at this point, and we will be slowly raising the limits here to allow more users in as we can. We expect this to be resolved in the next 15 minutes,\u201d reads Discord\u2019s status page<\/a>\u00a0in an update posted at 3:07 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n

Following that update, Discord posted on its status page again at 3:21 p.m. ET, this time saying, \u201cWe are continuing to work through some issues with one of our database clusters. We are still rate limiting login traffic.\u201d The company promised another update in 15 minutes.<\/p>\n
