{"id":399749,"date":"2022-01-27T04:34:51","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T01:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/over-500-ny-municipalities-wont-allow-legal-weed-sales\/"},"modified":"2022-01-27T04:34:51","modified_gmt":"2022-01-27T01:34:51","slug":"over-500-ny-municipalities-wont-allow-legal-weed-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/over-500-ny-municipalities-wont-allow-legal-weed-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"#Over 500 NY municipalities won&#8217;t allow legal weed sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Over 500 NY municipalities won&#8217;t allow legal weed sales<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/newy-york-marijuana-100.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Some of Long Island\u2019s most popular summer hot spots aren\u2019t high on legal weed sales.<\/p>\n<p>All seven villages in the town of Southampton \u2014 including Westhampton, Sag Harbor and the town\u2019s swanky namesake \u2014 opted out of allowing sales of recreational marijuana, records show.<\/p>\n<p>The East End beach village of East Hampton and the town of Shelter Island also won\u2019t let stores sell cannabis or allow businesses to profit off people getting wasted on their premises.<\/p>\n<p>And despite its seemingly \u201c420 friendly\u201d name, the Long Island town of Hempstead \u2014 the state\u2019s largest, with a population of more than 800,000 \u2014 also decided to harsh the mellow of resident stoners.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 522 municipalities \u2014 34 percent of the state\u2019s 1,528 cities, villages and towns \u2014 decided to take a pass on the potential windfall from weed-related commerce, according to data released Tuesday by the Office of Cannabis Management.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Kathy Hochul has said the state plans to reap more than $1.25 billion in new revenue during the next six years from a 9 percent state excise tax on pot sales.<\/p>\n<p>Municipalities that allow sales and their surrounding counties will also split another 4 percent excise tax, 75-25.<\/p>\n<p>Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman was a Hempstead councilman when officials unanimously voted last year to just say no and said he was convinced that \u201cthe cost to society far outweighs any revenue that would be derived from marijuana sales.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe that recreational marijuana is deleterious to the health of our residents, especially young people, and that it will create a public safety crisis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure there\u2019s any revenue that would have made us do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Long Island village of Island Park also \u201cacted in concert\u201d against legal weed locally, Mayor Michael McGinty said.<\/p>\n<p>McGinty described marijuana as a \u201cgateway drug\u201d and said allowing its legal sale \u201copens a door you can never close again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re talking about a moral imperative here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>But given the larger percentage of municipalities that will permit sales \u2014 including the Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le and most cities \u2014 state residents won\u2019t have far to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> to get their smoke on.<\/p>\n<p>Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said his government was eager to help accommodate the customers who won\u2019t be able to make purchases in the town\u2019s villages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there\u2019s going to be a dispensary in the town\u2026it\u2019ll probably be in an industrial area or near a main highway,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe could do a lot with the money, which I anticipate to be upwards of $1 million a year.
