{"id":400231,"date":"2022-01-28T05:18:21","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T02:18:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/opensea-reverses-limits-on-minting-after-community-backlash\/"},"modified":"2022-01-28T05:18:21","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T02:18:21","slug":"opensea-reverses-limits-on-minting-after-community-backlash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/opensea-reverses-limits-on-minting-after-community-backlash\/","title":{"rendered":"# OpenSea reverses limits on minting after community backlash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong># OpenSea reverses limits on minting after community backlash <\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.cointelegraph.com\/images\/840_aHR0cHM6Ly9zMy5jb2ludGVsZWdyYXBoLmNvbS91cGxvYWRzLzIwMjItMDEvMDJjMzk2NTItOTY4ZC00N2YzLWFkNTItMWYyYTQwMDdjYWZiLmpwZw==.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-128018ef>NFT marketplace OpenSea has backflipped on a controversial decision to limit the number of NFTs and collections creators can mint using its smart contract.<\/p>\n<p>The platform previously allowed unlimited collections and items, but changed its policy to only allow five NFT collections with 50 items per collection when using OpenSea\u2019s collection storefront contract.<\/p>\n<p>The unexpected announcement from OpenSea\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> Support account,<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/opensea_support\/status\/1486651385793769477\"> posted<\/a> on Jan. 27, stated the lower limits came after it had &#8220;addressed feedback received about its creator tools.&#8221; .<\/p>\n<p>A follow-up <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/opensea_support\/status\/1486651387815415815\">tweet<\/a> asked the community to \u201cshare how this affects your creative flow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NFT creators hit back, some arguing that their unfinished collections would now never be completed due to the change, with others noting that they were part-way through creating collections numbering in the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OrganicLinesNFT\/status\/1486673582163906567\">hundreds<\/a> to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BoredBabyMusk\/status\/1486666290983243780\">thousands<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One creator, who goes by \u201cHamsterNFT\u201d on Twitter, shared a screenshot showing how they couldn\u2019t upload any more of their NFTs, stating their frustration that they\u2019re now stuck at 96 pieces out of the 100 piece collection.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Well\u2026 For instance, I committed myself to a 100 piece collection. I\u2019m currently at 96 out of the 100\u2026 And now I\u2019m stuck with this message and I can\u2019t complete it. Ever. Thanks! <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DdLRNpiucI\">pic.twitter.com\/DdLRNpiucI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hammy.eth | Hamster NFT Collections (@HamsterNFT) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HamsterNFT\/status\/1486674300467924994?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 27, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>Creators could still deploy their own smart contract to circumvent the limits imposed by OpenSea, but with smart contract deployment <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/help.nft-generator.art\/en\/article\/how-much-does-it-cost-to-deploy-a-smart-contract-n4auz9\/\">costing<\/a> between US$1,000 and US$2,000 in gas fees, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ConsiderEric\/status\/1486773572836208642\">some<\/a> stated they will move their collections to competing marketplaces.<\/p>\n<p>OpenSea reversed the decision today, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/opensea\/status\/1486843201352716289\">tweeting<\/a> their apologies for not previewing the decision with its community. It stated the reason for the limits was that its smart contract was being misused, and that \u201cover 80% of the items created with this tool were plagiarized works, fake collections, and spam.\u201d OpenSea added that it&#8217;s \u201cworking through a number of solutions to ensure we support our creators while deterring bad actors.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">To all the creators in our community impacted by the 50 item limit we added to our free minting tool, we hear you and we&#8217;re sorry.<\/p>\n<p>We have reversed the decision.<br \/>But we also want to offer an explanation \u21af <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Y3igaE1RM2\">pic.twitter.com\/Y3igaE1RM2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 OpenSea (@opensea) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/opensea\/status\/1486843201352716289?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 27, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In a separate controversy, an email was sent to OpenSea users who still had \u201cinactive listings\u201d on their accounts, asking them to cancel any old listings due to a recently found exploit that allows attackers to buy NFTs for old listing prices.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>More evidence <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> devs hate NFTs and crypto<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prominent crypto influencer \u201cdingalingts\u201d in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dingalingts\/status\/1486654437548773376\">thread<\/a>, warned his 75,000+ followers, that following the advice in OpenSea\u2019s email would lead to easier execution of the exploit, labeling the advice from OpenSea \u201cincredibly irresponsible\u201d and \u201cmakes things 100x worse\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Dingalingts argues that following OpenSea\u2019s advice allows exploiters to view the cancellation order for previously listed prices on the blockchain, attackers can then pay higher gas fees to have their order executed before the cancellation in a practice known as \u201cfront-running\u201d, thus buying the NFT for a cheaper price.<\/p>\n<p>To prevent this, dingalingts advises to \u201ctransfer all the NFTs with &#8220;inactive Opensea listings&#8221; OUT of your address first before canceling the live listings in your original address.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly after all the listings are canceled are you safe to transfer it back,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>However OpenSea claims to have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/opensea.io\/blog\/safety-security\/important-updates-for-listing-and-delisting-your-nfts\/\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/opensea-io.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/opensea.io\/blog\/safety-security\/important-updates-for-listing-and-delisting-your-nfts\/amp\/\">addressed<\/a> these issues by changing the default listing duration from six months to one month, building a dashboard to show users their listings, and alerting them when an NFT transferred from their wallet has an associated active listing.<\/p>\n<p>The changes were made so users could more easily view and be alerted to listings associated with their NFTs, in an attempt to limit the number of listings that remain active long after they\u2019re relevant.<\/p>\n<p>Cointelegraph <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roached OpenSea for comment.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"markets_outlook\"><\/template>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
