{"id":400399,"date":"2022-01-28T03:01:09","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T00:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/jon-barinholtz-drives-the-comedy-in-american-auto\/"},"modified":"2022-01-28T03:01:09","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T00:01:09","slug":"jon-barinholtz-drives-the-comedy-in-american-auto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/jon-barinholtz-drives-the-comedy-in-american-auto\/","title":{"rendered":"#Jon Barinholtz drives the comedy in &#8216;American Auto&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Jon Barinholtz drives the comedy in &#8216;American Auto&#8217;<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<div class=\"inline-module inline-module--columnist inline-module--author\">\n<div class=\"inline-module--author__img\">\n            <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"76\" height=\"69\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2013\/08\/michael-starr-hs02.png?w=76&amp;h=69&amp;crop=1\" class=\"attachment-nyp_columnist size-nyp_columnist\" alt=\"Michael Starr\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2013\/08\/michael-starr-hs02.png 76w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2013\/08\/michael-starr-hs02.png?w=38 38w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 76px) 100vw, 76px\"\/>     <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Jon Barinholtz can thank a bit of serendipity for shifting NBC workplace comedies from the big-box world of \u201cSuperstore\u201d to \u201cAmerica Auto\u201d and its sideways take on the auto industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project came to me while I was still on \u2018Superstore,&#8217;\u201d said <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JonBarinholtz?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\">Barinholtz<\/a>, 42, who played <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7vTviOtHCKg\">Marcus White<\/a>, the sophomoric, dim-bulb warehouse supervisor on the sitcom, created by Justin Spitzer (it ended its run last March). \u201cJustin approached me about a show he was going to take out for pilot season \u2014 this was 2019 \u2014 and without even reading the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> I knew it was going to be amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> was \u201cAmerican Auto\u201d and Barinholtz snared a co-starring role, but COVID shut production down in 2020 just as shooting was about to begin. \u201cI thought it was going to go away as so many pilots did,\u201d he said. \u201cBut, at the same time, \u2018Superstore\u2019 got picked up for a sixth season \u2014 and then [\u2018American Auto\u2019] got the go-ahead as \u2018Superstore\u2019 ended.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerican Auto,\u201d airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m., revolves around life at struggling auto giant Payne Motors. Ana Gasteyer plays its newly imported CEO, Katherine Hastings, who knows absolutely nothing about cars (she doesn\u2019t even drive) and relies on her motley-crew staff for guidance \u2014  including Wesley Payne (Barinholtz), the ne\u2019er-do-well great-grandson of the company\u2019s founder. Marcus was a little more of a doofus and a goofball than Wesley, who read more prickly on the page and was originally written as a bit older than me. He\u2019s kind of like a jerk \u2026 but I try to find his lovable side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s the type of person you may not want to hang around with but you agree to grab a beer with him \u2014 and then regret it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Spitzer told The Post that he had Barinholtz in mind for a role on \u201cAmerican Auto\u201d from the get-go. \u201cHe\u2019s one of my favorite actors and he\u2019s delightful and just so funny,\u201d he said. \u201cI can\u2019t count the number of times on \u2018Superstore\u2019 where we didn\u2019t know how to get out of a scene and I said to the editor, \u2018Let\u2019s just look through the improv Jon gave us and we\u2019ll probably find something.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can just lean on him.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerican Auto\u201d is one of two TV projects in which Barinholtz is currently involved. He co-created and co-stars (as overweight baggage handler Mikey) in the animated Netflix series \u201cChicago Party Aunt,\u201d which premiered last fall with star Lauren Ash \u2014 who played martinet boss Dina on \u201cSuperstore\u201d \u2014 as Diane Dumbrowski, a Windy City hairdresser with a heart of gold. We wrote all 16 [episodes] together and built the story arc throughout.
