{"id":400673,"date":"2022-01-28T23:57:29","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T20:57:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/instagram-tiktok-pull-ad-linking-adhd-with-obesity\/"},"modified":"2022-01-28T23:57:29","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T20:57:29","slug":"instagram-tiktok-pull-ad-linking-adhd-with-obesity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/instagram-tiktok-pull-ad-linking-adhd-with-obesity\/","title":{"rendered":"#Instagram, TikTok pull ad linking ADHD with obesity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Instagram, TikTok pull ad linking ADHD with obesity<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Instagram and TikTok removed an ad from a mental health care startup that claimed a link between obesity and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD.<\/p>\n<p>The ad that was put out by Cerebral \u2014 which was taken down for promoting negative body images \u2014 features a young woman who is seen eating donuts, cookies, and popcorn.<\/p>\n<p>The caption in the ad reads: \u201cThose who live by impulse, eat by impulse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It then went on to claim that obesity is \u201cfive times more prevalent\u201d among adults with ADHD and that treating the illness would help people to \u201cstop overeating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instagram\u2019s parent company Meta pulled the ad after it received inquires from Forbes. When a different version of the same ad was found on TikTok, the platform removed it after being contacted by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/tech\/social-media\/instagram-tiktok-cerebral-startup-ads-pulled-rcna13476\">NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTikTok has strict policies to protect users from fake, fraudulent, misleading or harmful ads, and in this case, we removed two of Cerebral\u2019s ads for violating our body image policies,\u201d a TikTok spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t allow content that promotes misleading health claims or that attempt to generate negative self-perception in order to promote health-related products,\u201d said a spokesperson for Meta, Instagram\u2019s parent company.  \u201cWe remove ads that break these rules.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cerebral\u2019s chief medical officer, Dr. David Mou, claimed to NBC <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> that the ad was created by an outside agency and was not <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved by company clinicians before it was posted.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/cerebral-FB.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"The ad was removed by TikTok and Instagram because it promoted negative body image, according to the social media companies.\" class=\"wp-image-21009178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/cerebral-FB.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/cerebral-FB.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/cerebral-FB.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The ad was removed by TikTok and Instagram because it promoted negative body image, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> companies.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Facebook<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI would not have been OK with that as a clinician. I would say that\u2019s my mistake,\u201d Mou said. \u201cWe immediately pulled it and have already come up with a process where I and my clinical team will be reviewing everything that comes through, so that nothing like this happens again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Medical journals have published studies that have established an \u201cassociation\u201d between ADHD and obesity. <\/p>\n<p>In August 2015, the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ajp.psychiatryonline.org\/doi\/10.1176\/appi.ajp.2015.15020266\">American Journal of Psychiatry<\/a> published a study which found \u201cmeta-analytic evidence for a significant association between ADHD and obesity\/overweight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/add-adhd\/childhood-adhd\/news\/20160204\/adhd-tied-to-obesity-risk-for-girls-study-contends\">Mayo Clinic<\/a> study of 1,000 people found that girls with ADHD may be twice as likely to be obese in childhood or early adulthood compared to their peers who were not diagnosed with the disorder.<\/p>\n<p>Cerebral is a San Francisco-based online therapy and medication subscription platform for those suffering from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in January of 2020, the company, which hired Olympic champion Simone Biles as its chief impact officer, says it has signed up more than 200,000 patients.<\/p>\n<p>Biles, who has been public about her struggles with mental health, touted her partnership with Cerebral last fall, when she told NBC\u2019s Today show: \u201cThe app, for one thing, has been a great thing and it\u2019s word for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Its valuation has soared to $4.8 billion after its most recent funding round which was led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2. <\/p>\n<p>Social media companies have been urged to crack down on medical claims made online that some say are misleading.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
